It was a double treat concert with Nelly Furtado and the Gym Class Heroes Live in Manila at the Smart Araneta Coliseum August 16, 2012. Two for the price of One! Weather was cooperating compared to the rainy days of the previous concerts these fast few days and weeks.

Opening act was done by GraceNote started around 8:15 pm. They sang a couple of songs to warm up the crowd.

GYM CLASS HEROES

Gym Class Heros (GCH) started at around 8:40 p.m. The female crowd were very enthusiastic. The best part was the band encourage the crowd to stand up and dance. The crowd at the Patron areas stood up and some rushed to the front (including me) to get a closer glimpse of the group. GCH, with the lead singer Travie McCoy, were very enthusiastic interacting with the crowd. Travie stepped down from the stage into the barrier to shake hands and sing in front of the crowd to the crowd’s delight. The girls were screaming in excitement.

After a short intro, they started the set with Cookie Jar.

GCF finished their set around 9:30 pm and before leaving the stage they enjoyed a group hug photo with the coliseum crowd as the backdrop.

INTERMISSION

There was an intermission to allow the equipment used the GCH to be removed and Nelly Furtado’s band to setup their rig. The standing crowd at the partron area were asked to seat. The security tightened to make everyone in the patron area to sit in preparation for the next set. I think this was done after some VIPs in the patron area complained about not being able to see the stage properly because of the crowd standing. I don’t agree with the idea anyways to put chairs for seating at the patron area for concerts of artists who performs music of Dance genre. I was thinking that now with the crowd sitting, the enjoyment will be lesser for the next set.

Nelly Furtado’s set started around 10 p.m. The crowd got excited on her entry. The security did not allow people to stand so the people in the crowd were seated.

She opened her set with Maneater. The crowd dancing (or more of swaying since they were seated) to the beat of her opening number.
