Marvel’s Eternals: Everything you need to know.

Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded well since the last decade and has become one of the most loved movie series in the world. During the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, Marvel Studios revealed its Phase Four plans, unveiling a whole new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One of the most exciting takeaways from the reveal was Eternals. A movie that will be based on a comic book first written by Jack Kirby in 1976. It is about a race of immortal aliens sent by the Celestials and been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years to protect humankind from the Deviants.

Now that we are only 23 days away from the premiere. Here’s everything we need to know about the film, from the upcoming release date to trailers, plot, cast, and beyond.

Who are the Eternals?

In the comics, when the powerful aliens called The Celestials visited Earth millions of years ago, they experimented on the then-present proto-humanity  While doing so, they create a race of superhumans known as the Eternals and a second villainous race, The Deviants.

The Eternals and The Deviants battle each other throughout history. As well as warring Gods from ancient Greek, Norse, and Roman mythologies. Later, the Eternals leave Earth to explore other planets.

Eternals cast: who is in the new film?

Just like any other Marvel movie the Eternals will have a superior cast of A-List actors and actresses to bring the story to life on the big screen.

Angelina Jolie is set to lead the cast by playing Thena, an Eternal that has strength, speed, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes. She can emit cosmic energy from her eyes and fingertips in the form of heat, light, and concussive blasts making her virtually indestructible and immortal.

She has the power to fly and can also cast illusions to disguise her appearance. Thena is gifted intellectually and a fierce warrior. She uses a bow and arrow that releases cold energy. She also fights with an energy spear.

While Richard Madden will be playing Ikaris. The sole Eternal that can still remember the past after the Uni-Mind and Integral to the Eternal’s success against the Deviant forces.

Ikaris has the power of teleportation, flight, and the ability to manipulate cosmic energy. He can melt through solid objects with his disintegrator beams and can regenerate tissue if he is injured. 

One of the cast is Pakistani-American comedian, Kumail Nanjiani he will be playingKingo Sunen, his powers are he can manipulate cosmic energy, fly, and is virtually immortal. Kingo Sunen is unique in his preference to fight. He uses the style of the ancient samurai using a sword as his primary weapon of choice.

Ajak will be played by Salma Hayek, her character’s powers are cosmic manipulation, teleportation, flights, and the ability to shoot energy bolts, and also her unique ability to communicate with Celestials when they are nearby.

Bryan Tyree Henry will be playing Phastos the first openly gay character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phastos is known for his superior ability as a technologist. Super strength, teleportation, cosmic manipulation are his powers,

His weapon of choice is a hammer that can shoot bolts of cosmic energy.

The Korean Actor known for the film “Train to Busan” Don Lee, will be playing Gilgamesh. An Eternal who is known for crafting his battle armor. He has the powers of levitation, flight, illusion casting, and near-limitless stamina. He has increased strength and durability but lacks intelligence and fighting skills. 

Makkari an Eternal who has the power to also run in circles creating cyclones. She can climb up walls and walk on water and can run at light speed for extended intervals. Lauren Riddolf will be playing Makkari.

Gemma Chan will be playing the Eternal Sersi, She is known for having the greatest psionic ability of all other Eternals to manipulate cosmic energy. As a result of this, she doesn’t age. She can only be killed by dividing her molecular structure. She can also control the minds of Deviants, humans, and other Eternals.

Lia McHugh is the youngest of the cast, and she will be playing Sprite, an Eternal that is trapped in the body of an eleven-year-old. In the comics, she’s responsible for using the Uni-Mind. Sprite is second only to Sersi in molecular reconstruction

Lastly, Barry Keoghan will be playing the Eternal who allies with the deviants, Druig. Druig has the same powers as all other Eternals. He has special psychic abilities that allow him to experience someone’s most painful memory. 

He then uses that to immobilize his victims by forcing them to replay that memory in their minds. Along with his psychic abilities, he has super strength, speed, agility, and reflexes.

What is going to happen in Marvel’s new movie?

The plot of the Eternals will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Revealing the first glimpses of the movie, the description says: “An unexpected tragedy forces [the Eternals] out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants.”

We will see the titular immortal alien race created by the Celestials come together to protect humanity from the Deviants.

When is the film coming out?

The first teaser was released on May 24, 2021, showcasing each of the new heroes with one of the character’s saying “Throughout the years we have never interfered, until now.”

As announced upon the Phase Four Marvel Cinematic Universe unveiling. Eternals was meant to hit cinemas on November 6, 2020. Unfortunately, because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, there have been some changes. 

Eternals will make their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe under director Chloe Zhao and the blockbuster will be released on November 5, 2021.
