LG and Saint-Gobain Sekurit Introduce Cutting-Edge Transparent Vehicle Antenna at CES 2024

Designed in Partnership With Global Leader in Glazing Solutions, LG’s Next-gen Transparent Antenna Delivers Seamless Design and Enhanced Telecommunications

LG Electronics (LG) is set to unveil its groundbreaking transparent antenna designed for automobiles at CES 2024. Crafted in collaboration with the esteemed French glass manufacturer Saint-Gobain Sekurit, this innovation, a transparent film-type antenna applied directly onto vehicle glass, is poised to revolutionize telecommunications in the ever-evolving mobility sector. It not only showcases LG’s prowess in automotive solutions but also signifies a pivotal leap forward in the industry’s connectivity landscape.

In an automotive realm where electric vehicles have become the standard and the imminent arrival of autonomous and software-defined vehicles looms, a connectivity revolution is underway. This shift necessitates cutting-edge telecommunications environments capable of seamless, real-time data exchange within sophisticated vehicular domains.

LG’s transparent antenna is designed to seamlessly integrate into various types of glass and vehicle designs, offering both on-glass and in-glass solutions. Its extensive surface application ensures dependable telecommunications performance and scalability to accommodate escalating network demands. Versatile and adaptable, this telematics innovation by LG amplifies connectivity, supporting 5G, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), and Wi-Fi technologies.

This transparent antenna’s integration within car windshields or glass sunroofs eliminates the need for design compromises typically required to house conventional antennas, enabling vehicle manufacturers to innovate freely. Boasting over 80 patented innovations by LG, including transparent electrode technology and the capability to render antenna patterns transparent, this film-type antenna has been perfected through collaboration with Saint-Gobain Sekurit, ensuring seamless application onto glass, thus fortifying electric vehicles worldwide.

Thibaut Heitz, Innovation and R&D Director of Saint-Gobain Sekurit, expressed excitement about their joint venture, emphasizing the shared goal to enrich the in-vehicle environment and actualize the future of mobility. Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG Vehicle Component Solutions Company, highlighted the antenna’s exceptional performance in automotive tests and LG’s commitment to pioneering technological advancements in telematics and automotive solutions.
