Rocket’s Origin: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Non-Spoiler Review!

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 showcases a lot of things we didn’t expect. It was a perfect farewell film for the GOTG franchise . Aside from that, the main highlight was that we finally got the chance to know Rocket’s backstory in this film.

Before reviewing the movie bit by bit, let us go back to where we left off from our favorite Guardians of the Galaxy; the original Gamora died when Thanos sacrificed her in Vormir, a past version of Gamora survived due to the time heist, Baby Groot became Teen Groot, Nebula officially joined the guardians,  Peter and Mantis learned that they’re siblings.

Director James Gunn’s creative direction evoked a lot of emotions, Gunn successfully discussed controversial topics particularly on Rocket’s origin story without making the movie emotionally draining.

Rocket’s Backstory Finally Revealed

It was a “good thing” that Rocket never discussed his history in the earlier films. Rocket’s backstory was a main highlight of the movie and it was worth the wait.

Turns out the psychotic scientist, The High Evolutionary created Rocket, who had to endure various experiments and abuse. Although this takes Rocket out of the action for most of the film but the storytelling kept the audience engaged until the end.

Introduction of Adam Warlock

Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock was a worth to wait character even though he plays a shockingly small role in this film.

Although it was disappointing that he only had a short screen time, the glimpse of Warlock’s cosmic powers was a great introduction. Poulter’s character was the right fit and effortlessly funny that added to the film’s comedic side.

The High Evolutionary as an Effective Villain

It was so surprising that Chukwudi Iwuji’s The High Evolutionary was very effective and genuinely scary compared to the Phase 4’s big bad; Kang the Conqueror. He obsessively curates a perfect society according to his own standards, to the point of being willing to sacrifice anything to get what he wants.

Visual Effects is a Stand Out

One aspects that set Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 from other recent Marvel films was its outstanding visual effects. The effects were a perfect blend of comic and realism.

From the fleshy space station to the flashbacks of Young Rocket and his animal friends, the visual effects were captivating.

Perfect Trilogy Ender

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 was a perfect trilogy ender that left a lasting impression. The chemistry between the cast was outstanding, and the film managed to provide each character with closure. Whether you’re a hardcore Marvel fan or just looking for a heartfelt movie this 2 hour and 29 minutes length film is worth watching.

Final Verdict

Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 is a 9/10 for me. James Gunn’s soulful style remain unlike anything else in the MCU, his storytelling has a level of sophistication that seamlessly weaves together elements of humor, emotion and music.
