The Pink Sand Beach

Santa Cruz Island is located near Zamboanga City. A small inhabited island in southern region of the Philippine. The island used to visit because of its Pink Sand that accentuates the beauty of the beach. The color pink of the sand gets from the pulverized red organ pipe from eons of surf erosion. Corals turns into tiny red particles and mixed in the existing white sand giving the beach an amazing rosy hue. However, the pink sand is not visible all the time. It only appears pinker during early morning when the sun is rising or late in the afternoon.

Colorful marine life and excellent water visibility, makes the place ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving.

Yellow Boat Adventure Program

The adventure will proceed after the quick orientation together with trained boatmen. Over all tour will takes 30 minutes using the ‘Yellow Boat’ where you can rent. The lagoon are surrounded with natural grown mangroves scattered in the vastness of mostly shallow waters.

Upon touring the lagoon, there are different activities like fishing, harvesting blue crabs and shellfish by hand picking. You can also eat fresh picked ‘Lato‘ (seaweed). The lagoon becomes the breeding ground for many and different endemic species.

This tour activiy is perfect for tourists who are looking for a relaxing nature adventure and a unique cultural experience in Zamboanga City.

Vinta Dance

Pangalay

Vinta” is also the name of a Moro dance that celebrates the migration of Filipinos into the archipelago. The performer imitating the movements of the vinta (vessel) by balancing perilously on top of poles. Vinta is characterized by their colorful rectangular lug sails (bukay) and bifurca ted prows and sterns. In the present day, the Vinta boat is still significant because it symbolizes the people living in Zamboanga City. Furthermore, the island serve as transportation of people and goods between the local island.

Fun fact:

Upon arriving at Santa Cruz Island, a sub-group of people called Sama bangingi welcomes you with their amazing dance performance called Pangalay. The traditional dance used to performed at the Pink to greets the visitors. This type of dance is commands skillful and flexibility of wrists, elbow and shoulder as part of it’s movements.
