Alaga ng Pamilya: Active Family Participation in Diabetes Care

Social-environmental support is very important these days. Support from our loved ones is very essential especially when we are experiencing hard times with our health. The situation right now made this possible as we are all being locked down in our homes with our own families and we are all able to feel the comfort and care of our family.

Living in the new normal that’s very far from what we used to, there are a lot of changes but one thing that remains constant is the care that we are receiving from our family. People possessing chronic diseases are the most vulnerable persons during this time of pandemic. They are the ones that we should look over as they are the ones who are at risk with the virus spreading.

Diabetes is one of the top most chronic diseases which older adults possess these days and the worst thing about it is it cannot be cured.

I remember almost 4 years ago, my father was diagnosed with diabetes during his 40’s, his world suddenly stopped as it also developed other complications which made him stop from work and focus with the medication. The atmosphere in our house that time was so heavy. That moment was the lowest point of our lives and even questioned why it happened. It was an unexpected surprise that we never really wished to happen again.

As the time goes by, even if things really got hard during those days, we made sure that we never let our father feel down and stayed with him all throughout the process of curing other complications he got from having diabetes. With all the means and support, we always make sure that everything that is necessary for his recovery will be provided.

Diabetes is one of the greatest enemy of our body, and on the other hand we always remind our father that he is more than the disease, a simple reminder with a big impact to them.

Sometimes we tend to forget our health and enjoy things without thinking of the effects of it on our body. Prioritizing our health, doing physical activities, taking nutritious food and having a healthy lifestyle and mindset could help us in the process of controlling the disease. These should be done not just by one person but the whole family as this plays a big role in preventing the chronic diseases in the coming years.

Fortunately with the innovations and shifting of different fields in the online world, there is now an online way to address your worries and be empowered in the midst of the process of having Diabetes.

As Sanofi aims to provide its full commitment to take care and show love in fighting Diabetes, they introduced to the public their ‘Empower Program’ which goal is to reach those with Diabetes and give them enough education about the disease and still feel empowered despite their health condition.
