Xiaomi Conducts Carbon Footprint Analysis on Flagship Smartphone Promote Sustainability

Xiaomi, a leading consumer electronics and smart manufacturing company, has recently conducted a carbon footprint analysis on its latest flagship smartphone in collaboration with an external carbon data analysis and certification organization. This analysis enabled the establishment of a comprehensive process and methodological model for assessing the carbon footprint of smartphone products.

The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach used measures greenhouse gas emissions from the extraction of raw materials through to the product’s disposal. The carbon footprint of the Xiaomi 13 Pro was found to be 62.8 kg CO2e, covering carbon emissions from raw materials, manufacturing, storage, transportation, use, and end-of-life disposal. This measurement follows PAS2050 standards to ensure data accuracy and credibility.

Xiaomi aims to prioritize sustainability in all its activities and uses the valuable information from this analysis to inform its decision-making. As a participant in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), Xiaomi aligns its sustainability objectives with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) established by the United Nations. The company currently offers over 40 energy-saving products and reduces packaging waste by up to 40% with its One Paper Box design.

By implementing this LCA carbon footprint management system, Xiaomi takes a significant step towards achieving its sustainability objective and reinforces its commitment to developing eco-friendly products that benefit both consumers and the planet.

Every green action matters

Xiaomi, a strong supporter of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations, recognizes the importance of promoting sustainable living and raising awareness of it worldwide. In line with this, Xiaomi is committed to improving the quality of its product carbon footprint data and extending its measurement to cover more product models. Furthermore, Xiaomi has partnered with National Geographic Magazine China to contribute to public education on sustainable living.

“Our belief is that significant transformation begins with building awareness and taking gradual, incremental steps towards change,” said Lei Jun, the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group. “Through this collaboration, we aim to promote environmental consciousness, encourage people to make sustainable choices when purchasing products, choose energy-efficient alternatives, opt for greener transportation, and take advantage of recycling options when upgrading their products.”

National Geographic scientists and explorers are working with Xiaomi to provide educational tools to inspire individuals and communities to understand the impact of their lifestyle choices on the environment and to discover ways to lead more sustainable and intelligent lives. This partnership highlights Xiaomi’s dedication to promoting sustainable living and taking a more environmentally conscious approach to its business.
