Growing your money without taking on excessive risk can be a constant balancing act. You don’t want your savings sitting idle in a bank account with low interest, but riskier investment options may feel too intimidating. Since opportunities that combine attractive yields with relatively low risk don’t come around every day, it pays to take notice when one becomes available.

Now, Filipinos have an opportunity to earn a fixed 6.875% per annum (p.a.) yield through a government-backed investment. The Bureau of the Treasury’s 32nd tranche of Retail Treasury Bonds (RTB 32) is available through GBonds on GCash during its primary offer period from September 29 to October 7, 2026.

If financial jargon sounds complicated, here’s a simple way to understand RTBs: the government raises funds to support national development by borrowing money from investors. In return, investors receive their principal investment at maturity and earn interest according to the bond’s terms.

Here are the reasons why you should consider investing in RTBs:

● You can get your full investment back at maturity

Investing can feel intimidating because of unpredictable market movements. Stock prices and investment fund returns fluctuate, but RTBs work differently. Their interest rate is fixed when you invest, allowing you to earn predictable interest without constantly monitoring market movements, provided you hold the bonds until maturity and the government meets its obligations.

RTB 32 has a 2.5-year term and will mature on April 12, 2029. By holding your investment until maturity, you can receive your full principal amount back, along with the interest earned under the bond’s terms.

● Enjoy a relatively low-risk investment option

RTBs are securities issued by the Philippine government, making them a relatively low-risk investment option compared with many market-linked alternatives. For Filipinos looking to diversify their portfolios beyond traditional savings accounts, government securities offer another way to put their money to work while earning fixed interest.

● Receive interest payments every quarter

Unlike some fixed-income investments that pay interest only at the end of their term, RTBs provide quarterly interest payments throughout the bond’s life. You can reinvest these earnings, add them to your savings, or use them to support other financial goals.

● Maintain flexibility when your financial needs change

RTBs offer investors the option to buy or sell their holdings in the secondary market before maturity. If you need access to your money before RTB 32 reaches its 2.5-year maturity, you can sell your bonds through GBonds on the secondary market after the primary offer period closes on October 7.

Keep in mind, however, that selling before maturity means accepting the prevailing market price, which may be higher or lower than your original purchase price. Applicable transaction fees will also apply.

● Start investing without a huge amount of capital

RTBs are designed to make government securities accessible to everyday Filipinos without requiring a substantial initial investment or complicated paperwork. Through GBonds, you can invest in RTB 32 with as little as ₱5,000, with zero processing fees during the primary offer period. Standard fees apply to purchases and sales made on the secondary market.

Get Started via GBonds on GCash

GCash users can purchase RTBs directly through GBonds, an investment marketplace within the GCash app that lets users invest in government bonds. GBonds offers free top-ups and withdrawals, while standard fees apply when buying or selling bonds.

To get started, open the GCash app, go to the Invest tab on the dashboard, and select the GBonds icon. Complete the Risk Profile Questionnaire and wait for approval, which takes one business day.

To invest through GBonds, you must be at least 18 years old, have a fully verified GCash account and a verified email address, and maintain an updated Know Your Customer (KYC) profile from within the past three years. The service is not available to US residents or US citizens.

Growing your wealth doesn’t necessarily mean taking on significant risks, especially when government securities offer an opportunity to earn fixed interest. With the primary offer period for RTB 32 running until October 7, 2026, eligible investors can explore this opportunity to support their financial goals and receive quarterly interest payments.

Consider your financial needs, investment horizon, and risk tolerance before investing, and review the bond’s official terms to understand its features and applicable fees.
