SM Prime Workers Champion a #SMWasteFreeFuture

SM Prime Holdings Inc., a prominent integrated property developer in Southeast Asia, demonstrated its enduring commitment to sustainability with the internal launch of its #SMWasteFreeFuture program on April 22, 2024, at the SM Prime Headquarters Office in Pasay City, coinciding with Earth Day celebrations.

The launch convened employees from SM Prime’s new headquarters, as well as those from its primary residences SMDC in Two ECom, and its hotels and convention center in One Ecom. The event was also broadcasted live to SM Supermall employees nationwide.

Titled “Re-thinking Our Relationship with Waste,” the internal initiative aimed to address key aspects of waste segregation and management among employees, fostering better individual habits. Grounded in the Theory of Change, the launch emphasized that cultivating the right habits leads to the desired response, thereby yielding positive outcomes.

Sustainability Champion and SMEDD President Hans “Chico” T. Sy, Jr. underscored the significance of the #SMWasteFreeFuture program in galvanizing the SM community to take proactive steps in this journey.

“The #SMWasteFreeFuture Program goes beyond technology. It signifies a fundamental shift in our waste management approach. It entails altering our mindset and behavior towards waste, and implementing interventions that foster the necessary behavioral changes,” he remarked.

Distinguished experts and advocates were invited to deliver brief sessions, beginning with Ms. Rea Villa of Mind You on fostering better habits. Ms. Willie Garcia of JunkNot shared her environmental advocacy through art, while Ms. Antoinette Taus of Cora engaged attendees through educational efforts and a rendition of the song, “Heal the World.”

Under the umbrella of #SMWasteFreeFuture, the program represents the company’s new waste strategy to promote green practices in resource management, environmental impact, and social well-being towards a waste-free Philippines.
