SM City North Edsa, the very first SM mall and now celebrating its milestone 40th anniversary, has opened the doors to the third Book Nook in the Philippines, reaffirming SM Cares’ commitment to creating inclusive, community-driven spaces that nurture learning, culture, and connection.

Strategically located in Quezon City—long recognized as a commercial, cultural, and educational hub—the new Book Nook sits at the heart of a community surrounded by schools and universities. It offers a free, open-to-all space that encourages storytelling, reading, and meaningful interaction among students, educators, and families alike.

SM City North Edsa welcomes the third Book Nook—an inclusive space for readers of all ages, made possible through partner organizations and strong community support that help bring learning closer to every Filipino.

The launch coincided with the celebration of Buwan ng Wika, highlighted by a Baybayin workshop led by veteran journalist and documentarist Howie Severino. The session underscored the importance of preserving Filipino identity and heritage through native scripts, setting the tone for Book Nook as more than just a reading corner—but as a hub for cultural exchange and education.

“The Book Nook at SM City North Edsa reflects our deep belief in the power of education and culture to build inclusive communities,” said Shereen Sy, Pioneer of Book Nook for SM Supermalls. “We are proud to support initiatives that not only promote literacy but also celebrate Filipino heritage and identity, especially during Buwan ng Wika.”

“Baybayin is not just our native script—it’s a window to our pre-colonial civilization. We were a literate people long before the Europeans arrived,” added Howie Severino. “Book Nooks are a wonderful idea for encouraging reading, and offering opportunities for free learning.”

The Book Nook at SM City North Edsa follows successful launches in other SM malls, becoming part of SM Cares’ CSR advocacy to promote literacy, education, and inclusive access to learning for all.

Through initiatives like Book Nook, SM Cares continues to champion accessibility, inclusivity, and community development—empowering Filipinos to grow, learn, and connect one story at a time.

As it celebrates 40 Super Years of Evolving With Every You, SM Supermalls—with 88 malls nationwide—remains one of Southeast Asia’s largest and most trusted lifestyle developers. For four decades, it has grown alongside Filipinos, redefining the malling experience through sustainability, innovation, and meaningful spaces that shape the future of retail and urban life.
