SM By the BAY Empowers 272 Volunteers to Clean Over a Ton of Trash in April Coastal Cleanup Drive

Volunteers from SM Supermalls—including employees, customer relations staff, and janitorial personnel—come together after a successful coastal cleanup at SM By the Bay, united by a shared commitment to protecting our oceans and building a #SMWasteFreeFuture.

May 2025 – In a strong show of commitment to environmental protection, SM By the Bay rallied 272 employees and volunteers for its weekly coastal cleanup activities throughout April—collecting a total of 1,147 kilograms of trash from the Manila Bay shoreline.

Led by SM employees, customer relations teams, and janitorial staff, the cleanup efforts reflect SM’s call for collective action and community-driven responsibility. These weekly initiatives not only help restore the coastline’s beauty but also serve as a reminder of the urgent need to protect our oceans from plastic waste and pollution.

The campaign supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #14: Life Below Water, which focuses on conserving marine ecosystems and addressing threats like plastic waste that endanger biodiversity. Through continued and consistent efforts, SM By the Bay shows how local engagement can lead to lasting impact.

To keep the momentum going, SM Cares invites everyone to take part in the Coastal Cleanup on June 7, 2025, in celebration of World Oceans Day.
