The P-pop icons are accelerating their international growth by making their Japanese television debut, rocking major music festivals, and staging a viral, star-studded performance alongside Kento Nakajima.

Adding to the excitement, SB19 dropped hints about an upcoming re-release of their signature viral hit “Gento,” this time featuring a massive collaboration with Kento Nakajima
What once began as a long-term dream of global domination is rapidly turning into a tangible reality for SB19, whose latest venture into Japan has brought the P-pop trailblazers face-to-face with one of the most influential music markets in the world.
Fusing major festival performances, groundbreaking television guestings, and cross-border music projects, their dynamic itinerary in Japan serves as a key pillar in their mission to win over global audiences.
The P-pop icons hit a massive milestone with their debut at SUMMER SONIC 2026, taking the stage in both Osaka and Tokyo as one of Japan’s premier music festivals. Sharing the festival lineup with top-tier international headliners and major local Japanese acts, the group successfully used the platform to champion contemporary Filipino music on a global stage.
For group leader Pablo, hitting the SUMMER SONIC stage represents the fulfillment of a once-unreachable aspiration. Reflecting on the profound importance of this milestone, he shared: “Performing in both Osaka and Tokyo is another milestone for us, and we’re incredibly grateful for the chance to introduce SB19 to Japanese audiences and connect with them. We have a wide range of songs and genres in our repertoire, so fans can expect an energetic and diverse set that showcases different sides of SB19. Most of all, we hope our performances will allow people to experience our music, feel our energy, and hopefully capture their hearts.”

The multi-awarded P-pop kings SB19 delivered an unforgettable highlight at Tokyo’s Summer Sonic festival when they brought Japanese idol Kento Nakajima out for a surprise rendition of “GENTO.” This explosive, cross-cultural stage moment united two acts with deep ties to both the Philippines and Japan. The viral cameo has now sparked massive internet buzz, leaving fans desperate for an official collaborative release as SB19 aggressively expands into the J-pop market.
The Japanese artist opened up about the collaborative process, noting that SB19 encouraged his artistic freedom despite the high stakes. “This time, I had the special opportunity to write part of the lyrics for this track,” Nakajima shares. “There was definitely pressure putting new lyrics on GENTO—such an important song for SB19—but the members kindly told me, ‘Just be yourself, as always,’ so I poured in everything that came to mind.”
Beyond their explosive festival run, SB19 ticked off a major bucket-list milestone during their Japan trip. On August 13, the Filipino pop group made their official live television debut in the country, performing on NTV’s popular morning program DayDay.
Justin pointed out that adjusting to the production standards of a foreign network was an eye-opening experience, though the band stayed true to their roots. According to JUSTIN, appearing on a major Japanese television program involves a different kind of preparation, coordination, and way of presenting themselves. “While we remain the same SB19 that people know in the Philippines, being welcomed into a Japanese television program is a huge milestone for us and something we are truly honored and grateful for.”

The broadcast gave Japanese audiences a well-rounded introduction to the group beyond their musical talents. Featured on the morning show’s Dotti Dotti segment, the Filipino quintet delivered the Japan debut performance of their latest single, “LAWLESS,” showcasing their current artistic evolution. Beyond the music, the members flashed their charming personalities by playing a chaotic, hammer-wielding version of rock-paper-scissors with popular host Ryota Yamasato, affectionately known as Yama-chan.
These latest milestones in Japan signify a major turning point in SB19’s current creative era. The successful venture proves that the group’s long-term strategy for global expansion is effectively yielding real, high-profile opportunities in key international markets.
Looking at the bigger picture, Josh framed their recent international breakthroughs as foundational milestones for the group’s global future. JOSH explains, “Now, having these opportunities in Japan through our collaboration with top Japanese artists, performing at SUMMER SONIC, and appearing on Japanese television feels like an important step forward in that journey. We’re more than grateful to be able to share our music and connect with Japanese audiences while learning from every experience along the way. We hope this chapter will help us reach even more people around the world.”
Seeing these plans materialize, KEN is confident that SB19 will successfully cultivate a loyal fanbase in Japan. “We would love to have more performances, television appearances, and features in Japanese publications, but most importantly, we want to continue introducing our music and sharing who we are as SB19. We hope that more people will discover our songs and embrace us as artists.”
Fans can now purchase the Japanese edition of SB19’s Wakas at Simula through Sony Music Japan, available across major brick-and-mortar music shops and online retailers.
