Alternative metal force ONI has dropped the second chapter of his ambitious project, Genesis, with today’s release of Genesis Pt. II. Spearheaded by vocalist, songwriter, and visionary Jake Oni, the EP delivers anthemic rock/metal intensity that perfectly completes the Genesis saga. Produced alongside ONI’s creative partner and Spiritbox bassist Joshua Gilbert, the record cements ONI’s fearless new direction, led by standout singles “Float” and “What I’ve Become.”
Jake Oni describes the release as deeply personal:
“I am really proud of the Genesis EP, and writing it was very cathartic. As I released the songs and the fan feedback got stronger and stronger, I felt like I hadn’t finished saying everything with the first EP and still had all these amazing songs that truly felt like a continuation of my Genesis story. I hope the fans find the message in these songs, and it helps them as much as it helped me.”
To mark the launch, ONI premiered a powerful new video for “What I’ve Become”, a track Oni calls one of the band’s most impactful yet:
“‘What I’ve Become’ is such a huge song! It was a song that just flowed when me and Josh started writing it. The song is about not loving a version of yourself! We shot the music video on tour in Charlotte, NC. It was a crazy day—we flew in, shot the music video, and then played a show three hours later. I know this will be a fan favorite as it’s been loved by everyone I’ve shown it to.”
Both Genesis Pt. I and Genesis Pt. II are now combined into one full-length experience, available exclusively on CD alongside a limited-edition merch collection.

A Meteoric Rise in Metal
Since forming in 2014, ONI has carved out a distinct place in modern heavy music with his blend of experimental progressive structures, savage metalcore grit, and melodic catharsis. His debut album Ironshore (2016), produced by Josh Wilbur, featured Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe on “The Only Cure” and instantly put ONI on the global map.
From the Alone EP (2019) to the critically acclaimed Loathing Light (2022)—which saw collaborations with Iggy Pop and Blythe—ONI has continued to evolve. That momentum carried into 2023’s The Silver Line, produced with Josh Gilbert and Joe McQueen, boasting guest appearances from Jared Dines, Kellin Quinn, Howard Jones, Sueco, and more.
ONI’s live reputation has only strengthened his rise, sharing stages with titans like Megadeth, Gojira, Bullet for My Valentine, Rob Zombie, and The Devin Townsend Project.
