Based On The Popular Short Horror Story Collection By Ichi Sawamura, The Six-Part Series Stars Takayuki Yamada As The Stories’ Famed Storyteller
When a successful businessman with an obsession for the inexplicable sets out to unravel life’s greatest mystery, a series of bizarre and terrifying events begins to unfold in Night Tales Club, a new Japanese thriller premiering in January 2027 exclusively on Disney+ Philippines.
Based on the collection of short horror stories by Ichi Sawamura, Night Tales Club is a six-part series, with each episode exploring a different mysterious tale shared by Hojo, a man fascinated by the supernatural. Believing that ghost stories, monsters, curses, and other unexplained phenomena are “bugs” pointing to a deeper conspiracy, Hojo invites people who have experienced supernatural occurrences to join his Night Tales Club. There, they can share their stories and present their evidence in exchange for 20 million yen in gold. With six unexplained cases awaiting investigation, will Hojo finally uncover the truth behind the horrors that fascinate him?
Takayuki Yamada stars as Hojo, the storyteller, while each episode of Night Tales Club is helmed by a different director. The lineup includes Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Wife of a Spy), Takashi Shimizu (Ju-on, The Inugami Family), Shinzo Katayama (Gannibal, The Human Vapor), Yukiko Sode (Aristocrats, All the Lovers in the Night), Yuichiro Sakashita (I Can’t Cry With Your Face, Blonde), and Yosuke Nakamura (Higuma!!, Poison Girl). Kenji Nakajima (The Naked Director, Tokyo Swindlers) will direct the sequences featuring Hojo. The series is produced by Yusuke Wakabayashi and Teruhisa Yamamoto, with original author Ichi Sawamura adapting his stories for the screen.
Commenting on the recent announcement, Sawamura shared his excitement: “As the original author of these stories, I feel an enormous sense of surprise and joy that they will soon be available on screen to scare audiences around the world!”
Night Tales Club is the latest Japanese series announced for Disney+’s continually expanding collection of must-watch entertainment. Fans of compelling Japanese storytelling can sign up for Disney+ today to enjoy series such as Gannibal, which follows a police officer who uncovers a horrifying secret in a quiet rural village, and Land of Tanabata, about a university student with an apparently useless ability who investigates a murder. The platform also offers lighter entertainment, including the cross-cultural romantic comedy Merry Berry Love and the comedic variety show The One Shot.
