Inspired by the familiar yet complicated experience of falling in love with a close friend, “Aaminin” captures the longing, vulnerability, and uncertainty that come with feelings that could change a friendship forever. The song opens with James’ intimate line, “Nung una pa lang, pansin ko naman na ’di pang-magkaibigan lang,” immediately drawing listeners into the realization that a relationship may have grown beyond friendship.

The track originated from James’ desire to create an original song inspired by the series, particularly from Jordan’s perspective as he navigates his growing feelings for Billy, portrayed by Kathryn. Following a discussion with director Chad Vidanes, James developed the song’s lyrical concept around a heartfelt confession shaped by the characters’ evolving romantic relationship.

“I thought writing a song from Jordan’s perspective could be interesting,” James shares. “I teamed up with Jason Marvin to make this song, and we had finished it in hopes that we could get Kathryn to sing on the track, and I’m very grateful that she did. The process didn’t require much thought because we have been close to these characters for almost a year. It’s a simple yet beautiful song, and our vocals blended really well.”

After spending nearly a year portraying their respective characters, James and Kathryn brought a deeper understanding of Jordan and Billy’s emotional journey into the recording studio. Their voices complement each other beautifully, delivering an effortless blend that adds sincerity and emotional depth to the song.

For James, honesty became the foundation of the songwriting process. Collaborating with Jason Marvin, who also produced the track, he drew inspiration from the series’ script, character breakdowns, and personal emotions to create a composition that feels genuine and unfiltered.

The song’s stripped-down arrangement further highlights its emotional intimacy, evoking the feeling of a personal bedroom confession. With minimal musical distractions, the lyrics and vocal performances take center stage, conveying the depth of emotions and everything left unsaid between two people.

“Aaminin is a song about hope and trusting your feelings, wherever they may lead,” James says.

James Reid and Kathryn Bernardo’s “Aaminin” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.
