InfiniVan Breaking Grounds in BaLER

InfiniVAN, Inc. has officially broken ground on the InfiniVAN Baler Cable Landing Station (CLS) — a landmark project set to strengthen the Philippines’ digital backbone and expand access to faster, more resilient international bandwidth. The ceremony took place at the CLS site along Suklayin-Buhangin Road in Baler, Aurora, and drew government leaders, technology partners, Japanese business representatives, and local officials.

InfiniVAN Inc. officials, led by Chairman Koji Miyashita, President Shigeki Nakahara, Chief Technology Officer Alberto Espedido, and Imelda Walcien, Director of the NTC Regulation Branch, were joined by Naobumi Yokota, Minister for Economic Affairs of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, Aurora Vice Governor Sid Pimentel Galban, and other esteemed officials for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Baler Cable Landing Station (CLS) on August 6, 2025, at Suklayin-Buhangin Road, Baler, Aurora. This milestone marks a significant step toward strengthening the nation’s digital backbone and enhancing secure, high-capacity connectivity across the Philippines.

The Baler CLS will be an open-access, carrier-neutral hub that links submarine fiber optic cables to terrestrial networks. By increasing international capacity and creating redundancy, the station is expected to boost internet reliability, reduce dependence on a single cable route, and open new opportunities for data centers, cloud services, and enterprise platforms.

“The InfiniVAN Baler Cable Landing Station is not just a project. It is a promise—to reduce digital divides, to unlock boundless opportunities, and to empower the Filipino people on the global digital stage,” said InfiniVAN Chairman Koji Miyashita, noting Baler’s strategic, geopolitically safe location.

The project supports the government’s National Broadband Plan. In a video message, DICT Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda hailed the CLS as a catalyst for national digital transformation, saying it will strengthen the country’s internet backbone and deliver long-term benefits to Aurora and future generations. DICT Assistant Secretary Phillip Varilla highlighted the CLS’s role in modernizing telecom infrastructure and enabling data center connectivity across the globe. NTC Director Imelda Walcien also emphasized industry cooperation as key to expanding quality broadband access.

The ceremony showcased strong international partnership: Naobumi Yokota, Minister for Economic Affairs at the Embassy of Japan, reaffirmed Japan-Philippines collaboration on tech infrastructure, while Koki Irie, President of construction partner TAISEI Corporation, committed to delivering the CLS to international engineering standards.

Local leaders welcomed the development. Baler Vice Mayor Denise Alyanna Angara said the project will spur economic opportunities and improved connectivity for the province. InfiniVAN reiterated a community-focused approach: plans include local hiring, training, and partnerships to ensure the CLS benefits residents.

Technically, the CLS is positioned to enable:

  • Expanded international bandwidth capacity, resiliency, and redundancy
  • Support for AI and cloud services, smart city platforms, and enterprise data centers
  • An open market environment that can drive competition and lower connectivity costs for underserved areas

With construction now underway, InfiniVAN is focused on completing the landing station and its interconnection to domestic networks. Shigeki Nakahara, InfiniVAN President, closed the program with optimism: “We are honored to contribute to building a truly connected nation. This is only the beginning of a much bigger movement toward digital transformation.”

From the shores of Baler, the InfiniVAN Baler CLS signals more than new infrastructure — it marks a step toward a more inclusive, future-ready digital Philippines. As Koji Miyashita said, “From this beautiful coastal town, we embark together on a journey—one that will connect the Philippines, and its limitless potential, to the entire world.”
