As the global design landscape shifts toward inclusivity and authenticity, PSID-Ahlen proudly celebrates National Culture Consciousness Week by reaffirming its long-standing mission: to shape globally competitive designers deeply rooted in local identity and heritage.

Since its founding in 1967, PSID-Ahlen has nurtured generations of interior designers through a unique approach—merging cultural awareness with cutting-edge design thinking. The institution remains a pioneer in pushing students to develop a design voice that is both innovative and grounded in Filipino values.
“PSID believes that developing a design style begins by identifying, recognizing, and applying culture as the heart of design identity,” shared Pojie Pambid, PSID-Ahlen’s Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Understanding cultural roots allows young designers to build a creative brand anchored in their heritage and history.”
🎨 Culture as Design Foundation
This philosophy runs deep in PSID-Ahlen’s curriculum. More than just aesthetic training, the school challenges students to view culture as a dynamic framework for design solutions. Whether in studio projects or national exhibits, students are encouraged to examine cultural narratives—translating them into thoughtful, relevant, and often experimental spatial concepts.
Every design plate is a research-driven exploration, combining both local and global influences—what the school proudly calls a “glocal” approach.
“PSID always rocks the boat when it comes to design problems,” added Pambid. “We create challenges that force students to think outside the box—often merging two contrasting styles into one cohesive design solution.”
🧵 Weaving Culture Into Every Space
From classroom concepts to large-scale exhibitions, PSID-Ahlen’s students are constantly tasked with interpreting and preserving culture through material innovation, spatial storytelling, and visual impact.

Signature exhibits throughout the years have demonstrated the school’s commitment to cultural depth:
- 2013 – OPM: Obra Para sa Musika
Showcased interior designs inspired by iconic Filipino songs, connecting musical narratives to physical space. - 2014 – GLOBALSCAPES
Featured booth designs influenced by countries across the globe, highlighting cross-cultural interpretations. - 2023 – PHusion
Merged 12 global design styles with Filipino cultural elements, reflecting PSID’s commitment to glocal creativity.
🎄 Up Next: Designs Of Christmas Exhibit (D.O.C.E.)
In line with this year’s celebration of cultural consciousness, PSID-Ahlen is gearing up for the launch of D.O.C.E. – Designs Of Christmas Exhibit. This upcoming showcase will explore how the Christmas spirit is expressed across different cultures, filtered through the lens of Filipino tradition, spatial storytelling, and seasonal design innovation.
At a time when the design world calls for authenticity, PSID-Ahlen stands firm in its belief: that creativity reaches its full potential when it’s rooted in cultural consciousness. By inspiring students to honor their heritage while embracing global trends, PSID continues to raise the bar for what interior design can achieve—timeless, thoughtful, and proudly Filipino.
