Global Dominion Financing, Inc. organized the seminar in partnership with the ROL Foundation and the Pasig City Local Economic Development and Investment Office (LEDIO) as part of Giving Limitless Opportunities to Women (GLOW), a program that provides women-led businesses with financing, networking, and learning opportunities.

“Women run many of the small businesses that keep our communities going, from the neighborhood sari-sari store to the home baker taking orders online,” said Global Dominion President and CEO Samuel Cariño. “Many have had to learn the business side on their own. GLOW is our way of backing them up with financing and the practical knowledge to use it well.”

For many small business owners, however, bookkeeping is often overlooked. Sales may be recorded in a notebook or left undocumented, making it challenging to monitor income, expenses, and overall profitability.

“Access to financing matters, but a woman who understands her numbers can make the most of her capital,” said Global Dominion Chief Operating Officer Melai Felicidario.

Global Dominion Accounting Manager Mary Grace Garrote guided participants through essential financial management concepts, including revenue, cost of goods sold, operating expenses, gross profit, and net income after tax.

Participants put their learning into practice through a hands-on group activity. Using figures from a mock business, they prepared a sample financial statement, organized sales and expenses, calculated profit, and presented their findings to the group.

Participants work in groups to prepare a sample financial statement during the seminar & hands-on exercise.

During the open forum, Felicidario shared practical insights on recognizing when a business is ready to expand.

“You’ll know it once your business starts showing positive numbers consistently,” she said.

She also encouraged participants to separate their personal and business finances and update their financial records regularly to help identify potential problems early.

For Fren Del Mendo, owner of a cake and pastry business, the seminar also highlighted the importance of having a strong support system while running a business.

“A lot of us try to figure everything out through trial and error,” she said. “But nobody can do this alone. Support from the community and institutions makes it easier to keep going.”

The seminar is one of the activities under GLOW, which combines financing with financial management training and other resources for women entrepreneurs. Global Dominion plans to bring similar learning sessions to select cities across the Philippines in the coming months.

“A loan is only the start of what GLOW offers,” Cariño said. “Even women who don’t borrow from us can benefit from sessions like this. We believe that when we help a woman entrepreneur, we’re also helping her family and the community that depends on her business.”

Women entrepreneurs interested in joining GLOW may visit any Global Dominion branch or contact the company through its official digital channels.
