NAVAL AIR STATION PATUXENT RIVER, Md. — Aircrew Survival Equipmentman 2nd Class (AW) Vince Malong, a proud native of Zambales, Philippines, plays a key role in maintaining mission readiness at Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 1 by ensuring that lifesaving flight gear is always mission-ready.

On July 16, 2025, Malong conducted a “place in service” inspection of aircrew equipment—a meticulous process that ensures aviators are equipped with properly functioning survival gear before taking to the skies. His work supports VX-1’s mission to test and evaluate cutting-edge airborne systems in real-world environments.
Based at Naval Air Station Patuxent River and operating under Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic, VX-1 is the U.S. Navy’s premier squadron for testing and evaluating anti-submarine warfare systems, maritime strike capabilities, and airborne command and control platforms.
Malong’s expertise contributes directly to the Navy’s operational excellence, supporting not just pilots and aircrews, but also the broader defense strategy of a maritime nation.
As the U.S. Navy marks its 250th birthday, service members like Malong exemplify the spirit of global readiness and innovation. For two and a half centuries, the Navy has defended freedom across the world’s oceans—and the commitment of sailors like Malong ensures it remains ready to do so for generations to come
