Embark on a Journey of Retribution with CCP NTL: Hamlet

The inaugural season of CCP National Theatre Live concludes with a special screening of Shakespeare’s renowned tragedy, Hamlet, on May 28th at 6pm, exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas, Greenbelt 3 Cinema 1.

Following the triumph of Frankenstein at the CCP National Theatre Live screening in February 2024, Oscar-nominated actor Benedict Cumberbatch (known for BBC series “Sherlock” and “Game of Secrets”) undertakes the challenging role of Hamlet, a character plagued by inner conflicts, intense emotions, and moral dilemmas that shape the lives of every character in the narrative.

Supported by esteemed actors Ciaran Hinds (known for his roles in “Rome” and “Game of Thrones”), Sian Brooke (recognized for her performances in “Sherlock” and “House of the Dragon”), and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (notable for roles in “Wonka” and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”), Hamlet unfolds live from the Barbican Theatre.

The play delves into the turmoil of Hamlet, haunted by his father’s ghost and compelled to avenge his death. Suspecting his uncle Claudius of foul play in his father’s demise, Hamlet grapples with the moral implications of revenge, endangering his sanity and the stability of the kingdom.

Directed by Lyndsey Turner and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, this rendition of Hamlet intricately examines the Prince of Denmark and his darkening world with political acumen and psychological depth. Praised for its acting and contemporary visual presentation, the production underscores the enduring relevance of Hamlet in today’s society.

Originally broadcast in 2015, the National Theatre Live production of Hamlet set records as the fastest-selling event in London theater history, with tickets sold out prior to rehearsals.

The special screening of Hamlet is made possible through the collaboration of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, National Theatre Live, and Ayala Malls Cinemas. The CCP NTL Program aims to bring the finest London theatre experiences to Filipino audiences through high-definition film technology.

As the inaugural season concludes, anticipation mounts for an even more exhilarating second season. Launched in 2009, National Theatre Live revolutionizes theatre viewing by broadcasting top British productions live from London stages to cinemas worldwide, offering audiences an unparalleled theatrical experience.
