In celebration of Earth Day 2025, Grab Philippines has successfully planted the first 1,000 of its pledged 80,000 mangrove trees in Dulao, La Union — marking a significant milestone in its newly launched Green Programme. This initiative reinforces the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability by integrating climate action into everyday transportation and delivery services.

Empowering Climate Action Through Everyday Tech
Launched in February 2025, the Green Programme invites users to take part in environmental conservation through a simple toggle on the Grab app. With every transaction, users can opt to contribute PHP 2 for GrabCar rides and PHP 1 for GrabFood or GrabMart deliveries, supporting local sustainability projects across the country.
Introducing the GrabForGood Forest in Dulao
At the heart of the initiative is the creation of the GrabForGood Forest — a five-hectare mangrove enrichment site in Dulao, La Union. This project is being developed in partnership with the Dulao Fishpond and Fishpen Producer’s Cooperative, sustainability NGO FEED (Fostering Education and Environment for Development), and environmental tech platform EcoMatcher.
Dulao, a coastal community in La Union, faces mounting environmental challenges, including food and water insecurity and increased vulnerability to typhoons and sea level rise. Mangroves play a vital role in coastal protection, marine biodiversity preservation, and community livelihoods, especially for local fishers.
The initiative supports the “Ridge to Reef” (R2R) approach championed by FEED and Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU). It brings together government, NGOs, academia, and the private sector to build an inclusive, integrated framework for sustainable development.

Grounded in Community, Driven by Collaboration
The planting event was a collaborative effort led by Grab volunteers, driver-partners, employees, local community members, and partners. FEED and the local cooperative provided orientations on proper planting techniques and the ecological benefits of mangroves.
“We thank Grab, FEED, DMMMSU, the local government of Aringay, and EcoMatcher for this meaningful project,” said Delailah Lacadue, Head of the Dulao Fishpond and Fishpen Producers Cooperative. “This initiative not only supports our environment but also strengthens our livelihoods. Kami po ay kasama ninyo sa pangangalaga ng kalikasan para sa mga susunod na henerasyon.”
A Vision for Scalable Impact
“This is just the beginning,” said Greg Camacho, Director for Strategy at Grab Philippines. “The Green Programme proves that climate action can be easy, inclusive, and deeply rooted in everyday life. With just a few taps, our users are contributing to real, lasting impact for communities like Dulao.”
Through its partnership with EcoMatcher, Grab ensures full transparency in tracking each tree planted, giving contributors clear insight into the impact of their support.
“For environmentally conscious consumers, transparency matters,” said Bas Fransen, CEO of EcoMatcher. “With Grab, we’re bringing meaningful, trackable sustainability to Filipino users.”
As more users activate the Green Programme toggle, Grab Philippines aims to expand its impact nationwide—transforming micro-contributions into macro-level change for both people and the planet.
