Blending global cuisines and thoughtful architecture, World Kitchens redefines the modern food hall experience in Metro Manila

Inspired by the comfort food of the world, WORLD KITCHENS is a one-of-a-kind, first-of-its-kind 5-star dining destination created by Singapore’s food and beverage guru Andrew Tan Hock Lai. With 15 show kitchens and international chefs specializing in unique cuisines, this giant full-table-service restaurant offers a variety of international dishes at affordable prices. Serving great food at a single table, and using AI technology for seamless ordering, World Kitchens redefines dining as a global culinary experience.

There’s something quietly spectacular about World Kitchens at Gateway Mall 2. Even before you step inside, you’re drawn to its luxurious gold accents and serene atmosphere—a striking contrast to the usual energy of mall dining. But this isn’t your typical food hall. This is a thoughtfully designed culinary destination, where 15 show kitchens from around the world coexist in harmony and elegance.

A Design That Invites, Not Overwhelms

At the heart of World Kitchens is a design philosophy rooted in intention and curiosity. Singapore-based design director Dickman Tan, known for his expertise in hospitality and commercial interiors across Asia and the Middle East, led the venue’s aesthetic direction.

“We chose gold for its opulence—to catch your attention. But from there, the design transitions to earthy greens and browns to guide you inward. The space invites, not forces,” explains Tan.

Tan’s collaboration with food entrepreneur Andrew Tan Hock Lai began in 2007 with the award-winning Tomo Izakaya in Singapore. World Kitchens marks their first joint venture in the Philippines, and perhaps their most ambitious yet.

Curated Diversity in One Unified Space

The challenge was designing a space that celebrates 15 different global cuisines—from Japanese to Italian, Cantonese to Filipino—without visual chaos. The result is a sleek, neutral-toned central dining area that acts as a canvas, allowing each chef-led kitchen to shine while maintaining a cohesive, tranquil environment.

“Designing a restaurant is one thing. Designing 15 concepts to live in one space harmoniously? That was a new challenge,” says Tan. “But we wanted to let each cuisine breathe while keeping the whole experience refined and calm.”

The venue was originally envisioned as an al fresco garden. Today, it’s a fully enclosed, climate-controlled space that comfortably seats over 700 guests—a fusion of flexibility and elegance.

Beauty with Purpose

Every design detail at World Kitchens serves a function. Inspired by Zen principles, the interiors feature natural stone textures, live greenery, and soft lighting that mimics natural daylight. Even the curry plants near the restrooms were intentionally placed—not just for aesthetic, but to improve air quality and offer a soothing, minty scent.

A floating reception desk welcomes guests, who can browse curated menus on sleek LED screens before stepping into the main dining area. And where most food halls get noisy, World Kitchens has custom acoustic panels designed to minimize sound without compromising on style.

“A lot of restaurants sacrifice acoustics for easy maintenance. We didn’t,” Tan notes. “We wanted people to talk, laugh, and celebrate—and still hear each other clearly.”

Made for Every Moment

World Kitchens adapts to every kind of gathering. From casual dining to private events, the space offers six elegant VIP rooms and multiple dining zones. There’s even a central stage—perfect for live music, cultural performances, or chef demos.

“Filipinos love to sing. They love to connect,” says Tan. “That’s why we created the stage—not just for entertainment, but to support community and shared experiences.”

Whether it’s an intimate coffee catch-up, a family celebration, or a team lunch, the space delivers a consistent blend of comfort, versatility, and understated sophistication.

A Global Table for All

World Kitchens was built around a clear and inclusive vision: to bring the world’s comfort food to Filipino diners—and offer an inviting space for people of all backgrounds. Each kitchen delivers an authentic culinary story, yet no one concept overpowers the others. The balance is deliberate. The harmony is intentional.

“We planned the space in such a way that no single concept screams louder than the rest. Everything works together. That’s the real magic,” Tan concludes.
