Aboitiz Construction Achieves 10 Million Safe Man Hours Milestone at Surigao del Norte Project Site

SAFETY MILESTONE ACHIEVED. Aboitiz Construction’s project site recently achieved 10 million safe man-hours for its maintenance works for an industrial plant in Surigao del Norte.

Aboitiz Construction, in alignment with its unwavering commitment to prioritizing workplace safety and promoting it among its team members and stakeholders, proudly announces a significant achievement. As of June 2023, the company has successfully achieved 10 million safe man-hours without any lost-time injury in its maintenance works for Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation in Claver, Surigao del Norte.

Over the span of nearly a decade, from 2012 to the second half of 2023, Aboitiz Construction’s maintenance project team reached this remarkable milestone by consistently implementing robust occupational health and safety programs and maintaining open communication with the firm’s partners.

Alex Garciano, Vice President for Operations Maintenance at Aboitiz Construction, expressed pride in the team’s accomplishment, emphasizing the company’s dedication to executing projects with operational excellence while prioritizing the safety and well-being of its people. He stressed that ensuring the safety of their team members and ensuring they return home safely to their families after work remains a paramount objective for Aboitiz Construction.

In pursuit of safety, the project site conducts regular safety awareness training, emergency preparedness and response drills, site inspections and audits, monitoring of personal protective equipment, risk assessments, and daily toolbox meetings dedicated to discussing safety matters.

All safety-related efforts align with the company’s adherence to the 45001:2018 standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management System, a testament to Aboitiz Construction’s commitment to maintaining a sound occupational health and safety performance.

The company’s dedication to safety has garnered recognition from THPAL Assistant Manager in the Maintenance Department, Ryan Huervas, who congratulated Aboitiz Construction’s Maintenance Team for their recent safety milestone. He acknowledged their unwavering commitment to incident prevention and their continuous efforts in reviewing and analyzing programs that underscore the significance of safety for all employees. Huervas encouraged the team to sustain and strengthen their commitment to delivering safe work practices and actively engaging in various awareness and prevention activities.
