Capturing the essence of a single night and its lingering morning-after emotions, a Filipino-Dutch artist delivers an unforgettable musical journey.

Released under ABS-CBN Music International (AMI), Acoya’s new five-track EP, Hookup Hangover, tackles the intoxicating rush and emotional baggage of modern dating. The Filipino-Dutch singer-songwriter and producer fuses contemporary pop and R&B to map out the journey of one unforgettable night. It is a story that transitions from the initial thrill of an unexpected spark to the lingering, bittersweet reflections of the morning after.
“‘Hookup Hangover’ is about that feeling when you meet someone and get so caught up in the moment that you forget to think about what happens next,” Acoya shared when asked about the inspiration behind the project.
“I wanted to capture everything that comes with that experience—the excitement, the chemistry, the vulnerability, and waking up the next morning realizing that maybe it meant more to you than you expected. Each song represents a different part of that night, and together, they tell a story that I think a lot of people can relate to,” he added.
The five-track project displays Acoya’s growth as an artist, weaving together “DUI,” “Rendezvous,” “Runaway,” “Love Song,” and the title track “Hookup Hangover.” Together, these songs form a cohesive, cinematic arc that mirrors the highs and lows of modern casual dating—navigating through intense infatuation, deep longing, sudden vulnerability, and the intricate emotions tied to brief encounters.
The narrative kicks off with his previously released single, “DUI,” which perfectly captures the dizzying, almost intoxicating rush of falling hard for someone new. The storyline then builds with “Rendezvous,” a playful, flirtatious track charged with anticipation, before shifting gears into “Runaway,” an adrenaline-spiked anthem centered on impulsive, thrilling attraction. The atmosphere evolves during “Love Song,” where a casual, spontaneous spark deepens into something far more meaningful and vulnerable. Finally, the title track “Hookup Hangover” closes the record by confronting the emotional weight left behind after a fleeting romance, capturing the heavy realization that letting go is rarely simple.
Born and raised in San Francisco and currently based in Los Angeles, Acoya is steadily cementing his position within the contemporary Pop and R&B landscape. He honed his craft at the Los Angeles Academy for Artists & Music Production (LAAMP), learning directly under the wing of the multi-Grammy-winning production duo Stargate—a mentorship that shines through his sharp production choices and highly emotional songwriting. Cementing his status as a rising artist to watch, Acoya recently reached a major career milestone as the opening act for the Rohnert Park and San Diego legs of BINI’s massive “Signals” World Tour 2026.
Ultimately, Hookup Hangover is an open invitation to experience the thrill of falling too fast, the raw vulnerability of wishing for something permanent, and the quiet reflections that surface once the party ends. After all, some feelings hit twice as hard when the morning sun arrives.
