The ASEAN–UK Higher Education Week 2026 is officially set to convene in Manila from 3 to 5 November 2026. This landmark event brings together senior policymakers, university chancellors, researchers, and higher education leaders from across the United Kingdom and Southeast Asia to address structural shifts in global learning, expand cross-border student access, and design educational frameworks aligned with ASEAN’s 2035 economic vision.

Coinciding with the Philippines’ role as the upcoming ASEAN Chair for 2026, the summit is co-organized by the British Council and the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

A Vision for 2035: Strategic Pillars

As industries rapidly evolve due to technological breakthroughs and shifting global trends, the event focuses heavily on equipping the future workforce with highly adaptive skills. Key pillars of discussion include:

• Transnational Education (TNE): Expanding cross-border degree programs, dual-degrees, and joint-campus initiatives that offer students world-class UK education locally within Southeast Asia.

• Graduate Employability & Industry Alignment: Ensuring university curricula prepare graduates for emerging sectors, specifically emphasizing green skills, engineering, and digital economies critical to the region by 2035.

• AI and Digital Transformation: Exploring how regional universities can responsibly integrate artificial intelligence into academic research, teaching methodology, and administration.

• Institutional Mobility: Building fluid pathways for multi-directional student and faculty exchanges, alongside funding collaborations for international research.

Key Agenda Highlights & Venues

While networking and institutional collaborations run throughout the week, the primary policy discussions and strategic milestones are structured across two main physical hubs in Metro Manila:

• High-Level Policy Dialogue (3 November): Hosted at The Peninsula Manila in Makati City, this closed-door session features pivotal figures, including the UK Government’s International Education Champion, Sir Steve Smith, and CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis. Together, they will review bilateral policies and lay out the long-term blueprint for ASEAN-UK academic integration.

Strategy Launch & Thematic Panels (4 November): The second day marks a massive step for local education with the official launch of the Philippines Transnational Higher Education Strategy.

• ASEAN Universities Partnership Exchange (4 November): A high-value matchmaking event connecting 15 prominent UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) with roughly 50 Philippine and regional ASEAN universities to establish credit transfers and dual degrees.

• Cultural Integration & Site Visits (4–5 November): To build deeper bilateral relationships, delegates will transition to historic cultural landmarks, including a dedicated networking and partnership evening session at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila.
