In a joint effort to protect the elderly from cyber fraud, Globe teamed up with the Taguig City Government to host a Senior Digizen workshop at the Taguig Convention Center on September 16. The session provided 320 senior citizens with practical, hands-on training to identify and evade digital threats. Participants walked away with real-world skills to confidently handle suspicious phone calls, deceptive text messages, dangerous links, and fraudulent online promotions in their daily lives.

The training session directly confronted the escalating cyber risks targeting the country’s elderly population. According to data from the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), consumer fraud ranked as the most prevalent complaint among Filipino senior citizens in 2025. This demographic continues to be heavily targeted by malicious tactics, leaving older adults uniquely exposed to deceptive investment schemes, romance scams, misleading web offers, and various phishing, smishing, and “budol” strategies.
Instead of offering vague warnings, Globe volunteers delivered interactive, real-world practice for the attendees. The seniors learned practical defense tactics, such as breaking down sketchy text messages before clicking links and spotting the telltale warning signs of fraudulent offers. The workshop also focused heavily on data privacy, teaching participants how to protect their personal information, lock down their OTPs, and trust their instincts to seek help the moment something feels suspicious.

“Digital inclusion must also mean digital protection. As more seniors use their phones for communication, financial transactions, and essential services, we must equip them to spot online risks and act with confidence,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer. “Through the support of Taguig City, we are bringing these practical lessons directly to seniors,” she added.
To further empower the participants, the session highlighted functional mobile tools that make staying in touch with loved ones and navigating digital services much simpler. Globe’s volunteer team maintained an active, hands-on presence, guiding the seniors step-by-step through the technology and giving them the confidence to resolve tech challenges safely on their own.
“With around 120,000 senior citizens in Taguig, helping our elderly population navigate technology safely is a priority,” said Hon. Lani Cayetano, City of Taguig Mayor. “Through our partnership with Globe, we are giving our seniors practical knowledge to identify scams, protect their personal information and make better use of technology in their daily lives.”

The event directly aligned with Taguig City’s ongoing mission to protect and empower its elderly community. The successful rollout was organized in close coordination with the Taguig City Government, the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), and the dedicated teams under Councilor Alvinleen “Ivie” P. Dizon and Deputy City Administrator for Health and Social Services Dr. Cecilia R. Montales.
Highlighting the importance of the cause, Senior Citizens Party-list Representative Rodolfo “Ompong” Ordanes was in attendance to advocate for elderly digital literacy. A robust coalition of private-sector partners—including HONOR, McDonald’s, AC Health, Healthway, and Generika—supported the session by sponsoring meals, event tokens, and exciting raffle prizes.
Originally rolled out in 2024, Senior Digizen serves as Globe’s flagship digital inclusion program tailored for older Filipinos, designed to foster practical tech skills and cultivate stronger confidence in digital navigation. Since making its debut, the initiative has successfully educated thousands of elderly citizens. Globe remains dedicated to scaling this impact by establishing strategic alliances with progressive local government units like Taguig to advance digital independence and online safety for the elderly nationwide.
The workshop in Taguig was organized as part of Globe’s annual GDay celebrations, an initiative that brings together “Ka-Globe” employee volunteers for nationwide community outreach. Operated under the Globe of Good framework, company staff actively volunteer their time and specialized skills to support impactful local causes, ranging from grassroots digital literacy workshops to immediate disaster response efforts.
