Drivers deliver heart-pumping action in technical circuit down South

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) brought the 2026 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) Philippine Cup, the company’s premier racing series, to the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC) for Race Weekend 3 on August 15, marking the championship’s first visit to the iconic track in its 13-year run.

The move to a new circuit reflects TGR’s mantra of “pushing the limits for better,” bringing the prestigious racing championship into challenging territory that would put both drivers and race cars to the test.

Race Weekend 3 also continued TMP’s use of biofuels, serving as the second leg of its “rolling laboratory” as the company pursues more sustainable approaches to motorsports.

The Vios one-make race car (OMR) continued to run on an E20 bio-ethanol blend, while the Tamaraw OMR was powered by a B5 coco-biodiesel blend.

Team TGR Philippines Takes on BRC

Taking the track once again for Team TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippines were TMP President Masando Hashimoto, Justin “Buzzhype” Santos, Chenee Jimenez, Alex Lim aka BanaweBoy, Will Lucas, and Enzo Ison, who secured third place in the Tamaraw Class Sprint Race 8 that day.

The racing action immediately lived up to BRC’s demanding reputation.

The opening race of the weekend—the mixed Sporting and Super Sporting Class Sprint Race 8 and Legacy Class Sprint Race 6—erupted into drama less than 10 seconds after lights out when a multi-car collision shook the field.

The incident saw Julia de los Angeles spin out onto the track, forcing her out of the race.

The early chaos opened the door for Red Diwa to take the lead in the Super Sporting Class, a position he maintained throughout the sprint. Joaquin Garrido secured second place, while Alain Alzona overtook Michael Bryan Co to finish third on the podium.

High-Stakes Tamaraw Action

The final race of the day, Tamaraw Class Sprint Race 9, delivered another tense sequence of incidents.

TGR driver Enzo Ison, whose car was dragged down by debris hanging from its side, collided with teammate Will Lucas and spun out of control. Jesse Garcia, winner of Tamaraw Class Sprint Race 7, and Russel Reyes were also taken out following collisions late in the race.

Raymond Cudala took the lead early in the race, setting up a nail-biting battle among the drivers fighting for the remaining podium positions. Iñigo Anton and Oliver Aquino eventually secured the other podium spots, respectively.

Alzona Delivers a Masterclass in Sprint Race 9

In the Super Sporting Class, Alain Alzona continued to make his mark at BRC.

After recording two first-place finishes in three Super Sporting Class sprints that day, Alzona displayed calm, composed, and confident driving to secure another top spot in Sprint Race 9.

He made a masterful pass on race leader Michael Bryan Co just before the first turn. Although Co stayed close in an attempt to reclaim the lead, Alzona maintained his defense and composure throughout the race to hold onto the position and take the victory.
