The Grand Lobby of The Manila Hotel transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity on March 25, 2026, as distinguished guests, artists, media, and content creators gathered for the opening of HATCH 2026—the 8th edition of the Manila Bulletin’s flagship art showcase.

Held in partnership with Manila Bulletin, this year’s exhibit embraces the theme Contemporary Visions, Timeless Setting, seamlessly blending heritage with modern artistic expression.
At the heart of HATCH 2026 is a unique creative challenge: 12 contemporary and emerging Filipino artists reimagine the iconic acrylic egg—transforming it into a powerful symbol of storytelling, identity, and imagination. Each piece offers a distinct narrative, inviting viewers to explore diverse perspectives within a shared artistic form.

Set against the historic elegance of The Manila Hotel’s Grand Lobby, the exhibition introduces its featured artists to the public: Marko Belo, Dino Blanco, Norman Blanco, Rachel Anne Lacaba, Jao Mapa, Raf Page, Tokwa Peñaflorida, JP Pining, Angelo Roxas, Alber Tabanao, Rene Tolentino, and Krishnamurti.

The opening reception was attended by key figures, including Basilio C. Yap, chairman of the board of The Manila Hotel; Emilio C. Yap III, vice chairman of The Manila Hotel and president of Manila Bulletin; Jose D. Lina Jr., president of The Manila Hotel; Marvin Kim Tan, vice president for sales and marketing; and Leslie Araujo, brand and marketing manager of Manila Bulletin and project head of HATCH 2026.
In his message, Marvin Kim Tan reflected on the exhibit’s evolution—from a platform for fresh ideas into a thriving creative space that champions emerging talent and fosters a growing artistic community. He also echoed the timeless sentiment of Ernest Hemingway, who once described The Manila Hotel as the setting of a good story—an idea that resonates strongly with this year’s showcase.
HATCH 2026 continues to celebrate the intersection of tradition and innovation, proving that art can both honor the past and shape the future.
The exhibit HATCH: Contemporary Visions, Timeless Setting is open to the public at the Grand Lobby of The Manila Hotel until May 2, 2026, with free admission.
