SM Supermalls once again turned its spaces into hubs of green innovation and community action in celebration of Earth Day 2025, embracing this year’s global theme: “Our Power, Our Planet™.”
From Luzon to Mindanao, SM malls came alive with eco-focused initiatives in partnership with local government units, recycling groups, artists, and environmental advocates, engaging thousands of Filipinos in the movement for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Guided by its commitment to “Earth Day, Every Day at SM,” this year’s celebration focused on three sustainability pillars: renewable energy, waste management, and creative recycling.

Eco-Action on the Ground
Malls across the country hosted a wide range of interactive activities, including:
- E-waste collection drives
- Plastic waste caravans
- Community clean-ups
- Tree-planting with local CENRO offices
- Art workshops using upcycled materials
One of the most impactful projects this year was the EcoTarp Initiative—a creative upcycling program that transformed used mall tarpaulins into reusable eco-bags. In partnership with Tahanang Walang Hagdan, the initiative gave waste a second life while also supporting inclusive livelihood. The eco-bags will be distributed during SM’s upcoming Back-to-School programs, combining environmental action with social impact.

A Culture of Everyday Sustainability
SM employees played a leading role in this year’s activities, launching the R-D-C (Recyclable, Disposable, Compostable) campaign to raise awareness on proper waste segregation. From on-ground demos to digital content, mall teams spread the message of practical, everyday sustainability.
Across SM malls, creative installations, murals, and digital activations reinforced the call to action for a #SMWasteFreeFuture, showing that mall spaces can serve as powerful platforms for education, engagement, and environmental responsibility.

“At SM, we believe that sustainability isn’t just a one-day event—it’s shaped by the choices we make every day. Earth Day is the spark; what comes after is what builds the future,” said Engr. Liza Silerio, Vice President for Corporate Compliance and Program Director of SM Cares for Environment.

“Every piece of waste recycled, every tarp repurposed, every habit changed—these small acts form a culture of care that benefits not only our communities, but the planet we all share,” she added.
From solar-powered rooftops to grassroots recycling, SM’s Earth Day 2025 celebration proved that when communities come together, every day can be Earth Day.
