In honor of Earth Day 2025, SM is encouraging Filipinos to make small, consistent changes that have a lasting impact on the planet. Through smart programs, eco-friendly facilities, and strong community partnerships, SM continues to lead the way in building a greener future.

Here are 7 simple but impactful ways SM is making sustainability part of everyday life—and how you can be part of it:
🌱 1. Charge Your EV—for Free
SM now has 123 electric vehicle charging stations across 69 malls, offering over 14,500 kWh of clean energy to EV users. With 50 more chargers planned in 2025, SM is making eco-friendly travel easier and more accessible.
☀️ 2. Walk Through Solar-Powered Spaces
With solar panel installations in 47 malls and properties, SM generated 27.6 GWh of clean energy in 2024—equivalent to taking 4,100 cars off the road. By 2027, SM aims to reach 100MWp of rooftop solar capacity.
💡 3. Enjoy Energy-Efficient Mall Design
Natural lighting through skylights and Sky Gardens, LED fixtures, and motion-sensor escalators all contribute to smarter energy use. SM also supports the Department of Energy’s Interruptible Load Program with a 110 MW contribution.
♻️ 4. Join the #SMWasteFreeFuture Movement
SM’s waste segregation campaign, launched in 2023, encourages tenants and employees alike to sort waste properly using the RDC (Recyclable, Disposable, Compostable) system—promoting sustainable habits mall-wide.
💸 5. Exchange Trash for Cash
At the monthly Trash-to-Cash recycling fair, held every first Friday and Saturday, visitors can trade recyclable materials like plastic, paper, metal, and appliances for cash. Over 1 million kilograms of recyclables are collected each year.
🧴📱 6. Recycle Plastic & E-Waste Responsibly
Drop off plastic waste at 15 select SM malls and e-waste like old gadgets at Cyberzone areas nationwide. To date, SM has helped divert 63,874 kg of plastic and over 11,000 kg of e-waste away from landfills, thanks to partners like Friends of Hope and Smart/PLDT.
🌊 7. Be Part of Coastal Cleanups
In 2024, over 27,000 volunteers joined cleanups across 15 SM malls, collecting more than 157,000 kg of trash. SM holds regular cleanup drives, showing how small acts—when done together—can make a big difference for our oceans.
