I finally decided to buy a Fujifilm X-E2 to replace my 5 year old Canon 40D. Straight from the store this January 8 around 2 p.m., I went to ABS-CBN in Quezon City to attend the Bloggers Conference (BlogCon) for the movie Bride for Rent which stars Kim Chui and Xian Lim.
Since I came straight from the store, I did not have time to charge the battery. The salesman said that they were enough charge for a demo so fortunately I can do a few shots to baptize my X-E2.
I usually prioritize doing videos during a movie presscon/blogcon for my Youtube Channel. I plan to take some photos with my new X-E2 in between the videos and while doing the videos with another hand.
I played with the camera to learn it without reading the manuals. Since a lot of analogue controls are there, it was a breeze. The menu was very intuitive as well so manage to adjust the settings easily.
The stars Kim Chui, Xian Lim, Pilita Corales, and the director Mae Czarina Cruz arrived and the blogcon started around 4:15 p.m. With my monopod, I started recording videos of the event using my Panasonic LX-5. I wanted to use the X-E2 for the video but since I don’t have enough battery power, I dedicated the Fuji to taking some photos.
In between video takes, or while doing the video holding the monopod on the left, I shoot photos in my preset M mode using my right hand. I set the shutter speed to 1/250 or 1/180 to counter the movement cause by using only one hand to take the photo.
The lighting conditions where not bad with a few video lights in the room but was not bright enough so I have to set my ISO high ranging from 1600 to 3200 to be able to use f/4 with the faster shutter speed I set to compensate for taking photos with one hand while taking video with another camera on the other hand.
I was really amazed on the quality of the photos even at high ISO. The X-E2 really delivers the low noise performance even at high ISO.
The camera was bundled with the XF 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 R LM OIS lens. This lens performs as advertised and in the reviews I read. A great lens to start with especially for me who does a lot of events.
The focusing was also quite fast. I can easily use this for the demands of events.
With my new tool (toy as well), it gave me more possibilities in shooting events in available low light which I was not able to do with my aging Canon 40D.
Here are some more photos that I cropped a bit to improve the composition and to make it tighter. As the photo above, no further edit was done except scaling down and watermarking in additon to the cropping.

I’m very excited to shoot the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Jan. 9 with this Fujifilm X-E2 camera. However, I have only the morning to shoot due to some blogging event in the afternoon with the cast of movie Kuratong Baleleng which stars Robin and Daniel Padilla.
More details of my love affair with my new X and more photos and videos of the event later in another post. I’m really happy with my new E-X2!
