TPB Philippines and Embassy of Malaysia Host “Halal Culinary Journey”

Manila – The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines, in collaboration with the Embassy of Malaysia, orchestrated the “Halal Journey Through Philippine-Malaysian Flavors” at the Residence of His Excellency Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines on November 28, 2023, celebrating culinary diplomacy.

This culinary affair showcased a meticulously crafted Halal menu, reflecting the vibrant cultural exchange between the Philippines and Malaysia. Renowned chefs, Chef Don Baldosano, Chef Edwin Loh, and Chef Ammaar Syafiq Ayob, collaborated to present a gastronomic fusion honoring the unique flavors of both nations. Beyond its culinary allure, this initiative strategically bolsters the burgeoning Halal tourism in the Philippines, fostering mutual appreciation and understanding through the universal language of food. Destileria Limtuaco & Co. sponsored a distinctive mix of Filipino-inspired drinks during the cocktail hour before dinner.

“To cater to the evolving preferences of our Muslim travelers, adapting our offerings allows us to create exceptional travel experiences that resonate with their aspirations. Together, we harness the potential of Halal tourism, showcasing the Philippines as a hospitable and inclusive destination for all travelers,” expressed TPB Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles.

The event welcomed esteemed guests, including Brunei Ambassador Megawati Mana, Director General of the Islamic Tourism Centre Malaysia Mr. Nizran bin Noordin, and Director of the Office of the Secretary – Halal Industry Development Mr. Aleem Siddiqui M. Guipal. Key figures in Philippine tourism from the public and private sectors, such as Department of Budget Management (DBM) Sec. Amenah Pangandaman, Department of Tourism (DOT) Usec Atty. Shereen Gail Yu-Pamintuan, DOT Usec. Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Usec. Aliah Dimaporo, and Vogue Philippines’ Rhoda Campos-Aldanese, graced the occasion, among others.

Additionally, the Malaysian Embassy hosted a Halal Tourism Forum, facilitating engaging discussions among tourism stakeholders. The forum aimed to showcase Filipino cuisine to the Malaysian tourist market and explore potential developments in Muslim-friendly tourism products and facilities.

This platform marked a significant stride toward mutually promoting the culinary delights of both countries, urging Philippine tourism stakeholders to engage the vast Muslim tourist demographic through collaborations, setting the stage for future advancements in this dynamic sector.
