The Long Wait at Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen

It was a rainy day when I was invited to the newly opened branch of Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen Restaurant at the Power Plant Mall. Arrived in time and met with our host. However, due to the long queues of customer waiting, we have to wait for quite some time.

While waiting, I had a chance to talk to some of the customers who were there waiting for quite some time as well. I wanted to know from them why are they willing to wait. What’s so special?

I spoke to a smart looking mestizo and found out that he is willing to wait because he could not find anything more authentic version of his favorite Japanese Ramen. He regularly visits Japan and Ikkoryu Fuoka Ramen Restaurant was the next best thing to eating in Japan. This got me more excited and hungrier while waiting!

We got our chance to dine and I ordered Ajitama Tonkotsu for my ramen.

Ajitama Tonkotsu is topped with special half-boiled egg marinated in a special blend of soy sauce.

Reading from instructions in the menu, this way I had it when the ramen was served:

1. Inhaled the rich aroma. Ummm. Smells good!
2. Scooped the soup with the spoon and took the first sip. Enjoyed it for a moment and really appreciated how good the soup was!
3. With the chopsticks, dipped the noodles in the soup and slurped it making a “zu zu zu” sound. By the way, the noise of slurping is considered courteous in Japanese culture. The hard version of the noodles was just right for my taste. The pork was tender and delicious as well.

Did not follow steps 4 & 5 (putting more condiments and putting rice at the last part of meal) because it was already just right to my taste of a rainy day comfort food.

The ramen was really good. Now I understand why people wait. It’s definitely worth the wait!

I tried both of the fried chicken and fried rice. If you are not into Ramen, I highly recommend both of these. It was one of the best tasting fried rice and fried chicken I have tried.

It was a delightful dining experience at the Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen restaurant at the Power Plant Mall. Is there any better way of spending a rainy evening than having a hot ramen soup and the good company?
