Superorganism is Back with New Album and Single, “Teenager”

When Superorganism’s earliest song was released in 2017, the world embraced their unique aesthetic — a post-everything mash-up of trippy indie pop and fizzy, groovy electronica. Now they’re back with their newest single, “Teenager,” as well as the release of their second album, World Wide Pop, due out on July 15th.

This is their first new music since their self-titled debut in 2018.

Superorganisms have transformed and are now centered on Orono, Harry, Tucan, B, and Soul. Also, World Wide Pop has an international cast of collaborators such as Stephen Malkmus, CHAI, Pi Ja Ma, Dylan Cartlidge, and iconic musician and actor Gen Hoshino.

World Wide Pop is a showcase for Superorganism’s newly deepened understanding of each other’s interests and impulses,

Blasting back with thirteen tracks that strike a balance between artifice and earnestness, between sci-fi silliness and existential intensity. World Wide Pop is the kind of creative convergence you’d expect from such group as Superoganism.

Featuring good friends and former tour mates Chai and Pi Ja Ma, “Teenager” celebrates holding onto the raw passion and emotion of those formative years and is a rejection of cynicism. It is produced by Stuart Price (Madonna, The Killers), who Superorganism tapped to help them achieve the IMAX-sized sheen that their bedroom recordings have always aspired to. The resulting palette on “Teenager” and across the record melds millennium-era synth schmaltz with glitchy wild-eyed weirdness, a textural upgrade that never betrays Superorganism’s signature playfulness.

The joyous video for “Teenager” was directed by AEVA and features actor and comedian Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will and Grace) who is also known for his fervent dancing on YouTube. As fans of these videos, the band reached out to Alvarez to invite him into the immersive, technicolour and wild world of Superorganism and the outcome is not to be missed.
