PPO’s November Concert Pays Tribute to Russian Masters

Celebrating the rich cultural connection between the Philippines and Russia, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra presents a tribute to renowned Russian composers in the PPO’s third season concert on November 17, 2023, at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati at 7:30 pm. Renowned conductor Maestro Grzegorz Nowak will lead the orchestra.

Titled “Russian Masters,” the concert program features Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin: Polonaise,” Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Piano Concerto No. 2, Op.18, C minor,” and Sergei Prokofiev’s “Romeo & Juliet (selections).”

Russian pianist Nikolay Khozyainov joins as a guest soloist. Khozyainov, recognized as one of the most gifted pianists globally, has captivated audiences on prestigious stages worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center in New York, the Louvre, and Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, among others. He has performed with esteemed orchestras such as the London Philharmonia Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and many more.

Born in Blagoveshchensk in 1992, Khozyainov began playing the piano at five and displayed remarkable talent early on. He made his public debut at seven, graduated from the Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory with the Gold Medal and “The Best Student of the Year” award.

In 2012, Khozyainov won the 1st prize at the Dublin International Piano Competition and the Sydney International Piano Competition. Presently residing in Germany, he holds an Advance Degree from the Hannover Hochschule für Musik under the guidance of Professor Arie Vardi.

Maestro Grzegorz Nowak, the current Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, leads the ensemble. He also serves as a permanent associate conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London, UK. Nowak has an extensive conducting career, including his tenure as the music director of the Polish National Opera, Warsaw, Poland, from 2017-2020.

Ticket prices for the concert are Php3,000 (Orchestra Center), Php2,000 (Orchestra Side), Php2,500 (Loge Center), Php1,500 (Loge Side), and Php800 (Balcony 1).
