PAFI’s ASTIG Program: Empowering Communities Impacted by Mindoro Oil Spill

Pioneer Adhesives Foundation Inc. (PAFI) has recently initiated a significant effort aimed at uplifting communities through the pilot launch of the Angat Sining Tibay at Galing (ASTIG) program. This endeavor is specifically designed for communities impacted by the oil spill incident in Oriental Mindoro.

PAFI’s CSR initiative intends to provide practical and sustainable alternative livelihoods to local fishermen affected by the fishing ban following the oil spill in February.

Taking place from August 28 to September 3, 2023, the program conducted various training sessions for local fishermen in the municipalities of Pola and Pinamalayan in Oriental Mindoro. These sessions covered essential construction skills encompassing masonry, tiling, roofing, and waterproofing. Additionally, comprehensive training sessions were provided on the proper utilization of Pioneer products in conjunction with the newly acquired skills.

The ASTIG Program, aptly described as fostering “Tibay” livelihoods through the use of “tibay” products, was supervised by PAFI in collaboration with Municipality of Pola Mayor Jennifer M. Cruz, PAFI Executive Director Janie Alfonso, and trainers from the Southwestern College of Maritime, Business, and Technology. This initiative aimed to empower residents of Pola and Pinamalayan in rebuilding their lives after the oil spill incident.
