On the run

July 2, 2017. To start off Wellness and Nutrition month, Robinsons Supermarket held its 10th Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run at the Camp Aguinaldo Parade Grounds in Quezon City.

Stretching is recommended before running, so Coaches Jim and Toni Saret led a warm-up session while enlisting runners to register for the Fit Filipino National Weight Loss Challenge, a healthy lifestyle program aimed at encouraging Filipinos to lose a collective 1 million pounds from June-December 2017.

#BuddyRun10 offered participants 2 options: the 5km and the 10km race. Each kilometer was marked and the marshalls would cheer runners on.

Emergency services were on hand. Water and sports drinks were also available at certain stops throughout the course.

My buddy and I wondered what would motivate people to wake up early on a Sunday and run. She didn’t sleep the day before so the only thing driving her to finish the race was the thought of the delicious meal we were going to have after the event. Some reasons we came up with were: family bonding, peer pressure, training for competitions, fitness goals, and just for fun.

The landmarks and greenery around Camp Aguinaldo provided a beautiful backdrop for selfies along the way. Groups and pairs would take a break from the race to snap a few.

Before and after the run, attendees and their companions visited booths where they played games, tasted samples food and drinks, and got freebies from the companies present:

  • Nestle Philippines
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Fonterra
  • Unilab
  • Wyeth Nutrition
  • International Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (IPI)
  • Procter & Gamble
  • Abbott Nutrition
  • Getz Bros
  • Ecossential
  • Del Monte
  • Foodsphere, Inc.
  • Philusa

Robinsons Supermarkets are giving their customers a Healthy You snack platter for a minimum purchase of Php 3,000. This purchase must include Php 500 worth of products participating in the Wellness Festival.
