Jollibee’s 1000th store opening!

3 reasons why we should continue to celebrate the 1000th store opening of Jollibee’s BGC store @39th street.

  1. There will be more celebrities who will grace the ongoing activities of the 1000th store opening. After Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach and Anne Curtis graced the ribbon cutting last July 3 and the grand opening last July 4 respectively, here are the rest of the Jollibee endorsers who are scheduled to promote the new store’s opening.

So all the way to the end of July, there will be more Jollibee goodwill ambassadors who will grace the festivities!

Visit the store on those dates to possibly take videos and selfies with them or just to see your showbiz idols!

2. Be part of a historic event!

Just a quick background on the name Jollibee and concept since I was able to get feedback about it from last major consultant of Jollibee – Manuel Lumba.

The name Jollibee:

The brandname i coined was a a takeoff from the original Chinese word Jolibe which to many if not most non-Chinese shoppers didn’t mean anything. so I added another letter “l” and another letter “e” to read “Jollibee. so it does sound like jolly bee which is good enough. but without uniqueness, that would be another one of the myriads of names. so i decided to transgress grammar and spelling and turned the “y” of jolly into an “i” and joined the word “bee” to it. that’s how it became “Jollibee”. sounds good, wrong spelling and all, but i got my uniqueness.

Original Wikipedia entry – History section:

History
In 1975, Tony Tan Caktiong and his family opened a Magnolia Ice Cream parlor in Cubao, Quezon City.[6][7] In 1978, he and his siblings engaged the services of a management consultant, Manuel C. Lumba, who shifted the business focus from ice cream to hot dogs (burgers) after his studies showed a much larger market waiting to be served.[6] Lumba was Tan’s last business and management mentor.

Jollibee experienced rapid growth. It was able to withstand the entry of McDonald’s in the Philippines in 1981 by focusing on the specific tastes of the Filipino market, which differed from the American fast food company.[4]

The chain opened successful milestone stores in the following years: its 100th branch in Davao in 1991; its 200th store in Malolos, Bulacan in 1996; it’s 300th store in Balagtas, Bulacan in 1998; it’s 400th store in Intramuros, Manila in 2001; it’s 500th store in Basilan in 2004; it’s 600th store in Aparri in 2007;[7][8] its 700th store in Harrison Road, Baguio City in 2010;[9] its 800th store in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon on October 18, 2013,[10] its 900th store in Palo, Leyte on September 30, 2015; and its 1000th store in Triangle Drive, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig on July 4, 2017. Manuel Lumba’s Correction:

Manuel C. Lumba the wikipedia account is in error in saying that I persuaded the family owners to shift from ice cream to hotdogs. the correct thing to say is “from ice cream to burgers as the lead product”. A business shift was the primary strategy recommendation I as their consultant made.
