This September 4-6, 2015, environmental advocates and app developers will gather to discuss and devise technology-based solutions to climate change during this year’s edition of Hack-the-Climate: a joint conference and hackathon.

The event is co-hosted with Watson Institute Philippines. Like last year’s hackathon, this years hackaton named HackTheClimatexWatson, will explore different aspects of climate change mitigation and resiliency. Conference participants may select to attend up to two break out sessions, which are designed to provide them with a deeper grasp of the key challenges faced by organizations in their areas of interest.

Among the topics are Education, Marine & Wildlife Protection, Waste Management, Environmental Protection, Green Technology, Ecotourism, Renewable Energy and Disaster Response.

This year’s event has an added focus on social entrepreneurship with some environmentally sustainable enterprises being featured alongside some of the biggest climate change advocates in the country, such as Climate Change Commission, WWF-Philippines, Climate Reality, Greenpeace,  Marine Wildlife Watch and Move.ph among others.

Organizers decided to partner with Watson Institute Philippines – an accelerator program for young social entrepreneurs headquartered in Boulder, CO.

“Our goal is for our participants to not only come up with innovative apps and devices, but economically sustainable start-ups. This is the most practical way to ensure that their tech creations will continue to grow and make a difference, long after the hackathon is over. We also wanted to open this year’s event to individuals who may not know how to code, but who are equally passionate about protecting the environment. Social entrepreneurship is one of the most accessible and effective ways for people to implement solutions and affect change,” said Project Head and Watson Institute Community Builder Raya Buensuceso.

“HackTheClimatexWatson” is organized by Red Wizard Events & PR Strategists who are also the Founding members of Hack The Climate.
