Globe Provides Complimentary Roaming Services to Filipinos in Taiwan After Strong Earthquake

In response to the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Taiwan on Wednesday morning, Globe extends a helping hand to Filipinos in the affected area by offering free connectivity support. This assistance includes roaming call, text, and data services.

To facilitate communication with loved ones or for emergency purposes, Globe postpaid and prepaid customers, as well as TM users currently utilizing roaming services in Taiwan, will receive 15 minutes of free incoming and outgoing calls, 15 texts to all networks, and 1GB of data (whichever service is currently available), valid for 7 days at no additional cost.

Availing of this free roaming service is simple for Globe and TM customers: they only need to connect to Globe’s roaming partners, Taiwan Mobile and Chunghwa Telecom. There’s no need for registration, as the free roaming offer will be automatically provided to Globe users. Upon activation, customers will receive a confirmation message informing them that the free roaming service is ready for use.

Paula Rivera-Castillo, Head of Globe International Business, emphasized the significance of this immediate connectivity support, especially for the tens of thousands of Filipinos residing and working in Taiwan, along with the thousands who visit annually. The aim is to assist these individuals in contacting their loved ones and coping with the aftermath of the earthquake.

To avail of free roaming services, Globe and TM customers in Taiwan can follow the following steps:

  • To make a call, dial “+” plus country code, area code and telephone number (ex. +63773101212) or dial “+” plus country code and mobile number (ex. +639171234567).
  • To send a text, type “+” plus country code and mobile number (ex. +639171234567).
  • To use the free 1GB data allocation, turn on mobile data and data roaming and set the network connection to 3G or LTE. Postpaid customers are encouraged to only turn on their mobile data and data roaming once they have received the activation message.

News reports indicate that the earthquake, which occurred early Wednesday morning, struck approximately 18 kilometers from Taiwan’s Hualien City. This seismic event, reported to be the strongest in 25 years, resulted in the collapse of buildings, trapping individuals, and causing landslides. Additionally, it prompted tsunami warnings in Japan and the Philippines. The Philippine seismology agency canceled the warning at 10:33 a.m.
