Epson Participates in Earth Hour 2024 to Advocate Global Environmental Action

Epson is Earth Hour’s first international corporate partner

Epson has been officially announced as the inaugural international corporate partner of Earth Hour, the globally recognized environmental movement renowned for its symbolic “lights off” moment. Earth Hour aims to raise awareness about nature loss and the climate crisis on a worldwide scale. By aligning with Earth Hour 2024, scheduled for March 23 at 8:30 PM local time worldwide, Epson seeks to inspire millions to join the movement and take energy-saving actions for the betterment of the planet.

Launched by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) in 2007, Earth Hour encourages collective support for the planet by having people around the world turn off their lights for one hour at the end of March each year. Over the years, Earth Hour has evolved into the world’s largest grassroots environmental movement, motivating individuals in more than 190 countries and territories to adopt energy-saving practices. In 2023, Earth Hour recorded over 410,000 hours pledged on its “Hour Bank,” an online tally of positive environmental actions.

In a joint effort to encourage contributions to the global Hour Bank for Earth Hour 2024, Epson and Earth Hour have made simple energy-saving actions easily accessible on both their websites, available in over 26 languages across various countries and regions. Additionally, Epson is leveraging its global sales network to raise awareness of these actions within corporate entities.

Committed to becoming carbon negative and phasing out the use of non-renewable underground resources in its Environmental Vision 2050, Epson has undertaken numerous initiatives. These include transitioning to 100% renewable electricity at all Group sites worldwide since the conclusion of 2023. Epson is also dedicated to developing products and services that consume less electricity and minimize environmental impact.

Yasunori Ogawa, Epson’s Global President, expressed pride in being Earth Hour’s first International Corporate Partner, emphasizing Epson’s longstanding commitment to environmental conservation. Similarly, Siew Jin Kiat, Regional Managing Director for Epson Southeast Asia, highlighted the company’s focus on sustainability in its business strategy for the region.

Earth Hour International’s Senior Director, Brand and Network Communications, Yves Calmette, underscored the collaborative approach exemplified by the partnership with Epson. Together, they aim to harness the power of collective action and celebrate solutions to environmental challenges.

Epson and Earth Hour urge everyone to adopt simple energy-saving actions in their daily lives. Join them on March 23 at 8:30 PM to dedicate an hour to Earth—making a difference is as simple as flipping a switch!
