Disney+ Announces May 24 Premiere Date for “American Born Chinese” Original Series

Disney+ has announced that its new series “American Born Chinese” will debut on May 24th. Produced by 20th Television and Disney Branded Television, the show is a genre-bending action-comedy based on the graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang.

The show follows Jin Wang, a typical teenager who is struggling to balance his social life at school with his home life. Things get even more complicated when he meets a foreign exchange student on the first day of school, and finds himself drawn into a conflict between Chinese mythological gods.

“American Born Chinese” features a talented international cast, including Academy® Award and Golden Globe winners Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, Ben Wang, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Daniel Wu, Jimmy Liu, and Sydney Taylor. Stephanie Hsu, an Academy® Award nominee, will also guest star.

Executive produced and showrun by Emmy® Award-winning writer/producer Kelvin Yu, the show will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Short Term 12”. Cretton will also serve as executive producer alongside Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan, Erin O’Malley, Asher Goldstein, and Gene Luen Yang.
