Last January 7, 2013 I was hired by Solar Entertainment Corporation to be the event photographer for the advance press screening of the movie “Jack Reacher”. The screening was a Cinema 1 of Trinoma Cinemas in Quezon City. Of course, covering the event was also a good chance for me to watch the movie and blog about the review. I was hitting two birds with one stone.

The Movie Review
I think the movie is a good introduction to Jack Reacher as a character if you have not read the novels. Although people who have read the novels think that casting was not good specifically Tom Cruise to play the role of the title character. The character Jack Reacher according to Lee Child’s website, is supposed to be 6’5″ tall, 220-250 lbs. weight, 50″ wide chested guy. Tom Cruise definitely does not fit into the physical requirements of the character. There is even a Face Book page about campaigning or complaining that Tom Cruise is not Jack Reacher.
However, in my opinion, since the movie is roughly based on the book, no other character could have portrayed the role better. Of course, the movie being produced by Tom Cruise has definitely a bearing on who stars in it! Whether it will help Tom Cruise career or not, that’s another thing. But with a big mystic character/hero like Jack Reacher, I think it will!

Author Lee Child said that it would be impossible to find a suitable actor to play the giant Reacher and to recreate the feel of the book onscreen, and that Cruise had the talent to make an effective Reacher. Child also said, “Reacher’s size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way.” Of Cruise’s relatively small stature, Child said, “With another actor you might get 100% of the height but only 90% of Reacher. With Tom, you’ll get 100% of Reacher with 90% of the height.”
The movie was very fast paced: a mixed of action, suspense and a bit of comedy. There was no lull in the enjoyment of the movie.
The plot and story line was superb, gripping, worthy of an action, crime, thriller genre.
I rate the movie 4 stars for its entertainment value and highly recommend it! (except if you are a loyal Jack Reacher novels fan)
