Celebrating Foundation’s Inaugural Charity Gala: A Resounding Success to Share

Fundraising Event For The Benefit of Childhood Cancer Help Desk & Bone Marrow Transplant Unit Of Pediatrics Hematology Oncology of PGH Exceeds Target

It’s not every day that we witness an event of such virtuous and exceptional magnitude—one that redefines fashion, resilience, and philanthropy. In commemoration of its 10th anniversary, the I Want to Share Foundation (IWTS) recently hosted its inaugural Charity Gala at Shangri-La the Fort, bringing together luminaries from the realms of showbiz, media, and affluence, all rallied for a worthy mission.

What set this occasion apart in a truly unique manner was the inspiring display of resilience and grace exhibited by young cancer patients as they graced the runway adorned in couture creations crafted by acclaimed designers from the industry. The evening became a heartfelt celebration of their unwavering strength, a spotlight on their extraordinary journey toward survivorship.

Sheila Romero, the Founder and Chairman of the I Want To Share Foundation, shared during the charity ball, “My own journey as a cancer survivor has been a significant catalyst in my devotion to this cause. God’s healing grace gave me another lease on life, and I honor that every day by helping children at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) find hope for a brighter future.”

Renowned fashion designers such as Mark Bumgarner, Rajo Laurel, Andrea Tetangco, Martin Bautista, and Avel Bacudio, alongside prominent figures from various professional domains including business and showbiz, demonstrated that fashion can be a force for good, serving a higher purpose. This endeavor truly testified to the boundless compassion of their industry, reaching out to those in need.

Rajo expressed, “How does it feel to be part of the I Want Foundation Gala? It feels wonderful. It feels good because we continue a cycle of bringing goodness and hope to all these unfortunate children.”

Andrea Tetangco added with pride, “It’s an honor to be part of this—to be able to showcase my talent and share my creations with these people.”

For the young cancer warriors, this night symbolized empowerment, a chance to reclaim their sense of identity beyond the confines of their medical conditions. The audience welcomed the children with a resounding applause as they graced the stage, their journey woven into the very fabric of the red carpet, a tapestry of hope and resilience. The bravery and tenacity they exhibited on their path to victory were not just inspiring but truly deserving of all the accolades.

This exceptional event seamlessly blended art with the spirit of giving and sharing. An impressive collection of artwork and jewelry pieces were featured in the live auction, including creations by Master Sculptor Daniel Dela Cruz, Contemporary Artist Andres Barrioquinto, and Dino Gabito.

With the aim of raising funds for the establishment of the Childhood Cancer Helpline, a newly launched initiative that seeks to raise the Philippines’ cancer survival rate from 30% to at least 60%, the IWTS Charity Gala was a remarkable undertaking. Each year, out of the 5,300 Filipino children diagnosed with cancer, many go undiagnosed, seek treatment late, refuse or abandon treatment, leading to the low survival rate. Sheila Romero proudly shared during the event, “This charitable gala also seeks to secure funding for the construction of two specialized rooms at the Bone Marrow Transplant Center in PGH, marking a pioneering achievement in the country where the chances of healing will be increased. In addition, the IWTS will also support the funding for the Pediatrics Hematology Oncology of PGH.”

The Charity Gala proudly partnered with passionate brand sponsors, and what began as a grand weekend celebration surpassed everyone’s expectations by raising a staggering amount of P19M for the beneficiaries. Sponsors such as Maserati, Rulls, SM Supermalls, Vivo, Arthaland, The Lind Boracay, Denim Hub, Silicon Valley, Moss Interior Event & Design, and media sponsors like Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, Lifestyle Asia, and Stargate People Asia, all exemplified their commitment to making a difference by channeling their resources and influence into life-changing endeavors.

From its modest origins as a small fundraiser, the I Want To Share Foundation has steadily evolved into a transformative institution, bringing about life-changing impacts for thousands of Filipino children. Since 2015, their mission has been dedicated to turning extraordinary dreams into reality through programs like “SHINE! Dreams Do Come True,” where young warriors got to experience a prom alongside sought-after actors and actresses, becoming stars in their own right. Even amidst the pandemic, they launched the “I Want to Share my Hair” campaign, providing children the opportunity to reclaim a part of themselves—their crown of hair.

Annually, an average of 600 kids seek chemotherapy assistance at PGH, and last December 2022, around 150 graduated from chemo, symbolizing their hard-fought victories against cancer. The milestone was celebrated by giving these warriors an avenue to graduate like normal students.

Sheila Romero shared, “IWTS will continue in its mission to make a difference and contribute to society as we lead a purpose-driven life. The gala is a testament to what we can achieve when we unite to pursue a shared objective. Together, we can inspire others, reshape lives, and illuminate the path for those who need it most.”
