BLACK IS BACK! Miss Universe’s latest winner to wear a black gown designed by a Filipino Designer after Riyo Mori of 2007

The Filipino-American titleholder’s enigmatic ensemble was all thanks to Filipino fashion designer Rian Fernandez.

Miss USA’s gown is made by Filipino designer Rian Fernandez. He describe his creation as (from the caption above) “A velvety Rian Fernandez fully handcrafted figure-hugging deep neckline shoulder studded gown.”

For more than six years, Rian has expressed his works of art on the Miss Universe stage.

Rian also created R’Bonney’s preliminary dress, which features a halter neckline, skin-baring cutouts, and a removable oversized cape shawl in addition to her coronation nightgown.

We all recall that Riyo Mori, the 2007 Miss Universe, wore a black gown on the night of her coronation. Before the black dress reappeared and stole the crown, it had been 15 years! It’s true what they say: “Black is Back! ”
