Renowned singer-songwriter Barbie Almalbis concludes her exceptional musical year with the launch of “Wicked Heart,” her latest single released through 12 Stone Records and Sony Music Entertainment.

The song delves into the repercussions of impulsive decisions driven by emotions. Barbie shares that “Wicked Heart” encapsulates the notion that while desires and emotions are integral to human experience, there must exist something more reliable than the heart.

Drawing from a personal past experience involving regrettable actions, the Dahilan artist reflects on how following one’s heart can sometimes lead to trouble. “I’ve been through situations where following my heart caused complications,” explains the Filipino alt-rock icon, drawing inspiration from Jeremiah 17:9: The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Crafted and produced by Barbie Almalbis herself, with Jorel Corpus and Jett Galindo contributing to mixing and mastering, “Wicked Heart” stands out with its infusion of ‘80s influences and pastel synths. Barbie initially penned the track on a “guitalele,” exploring a different dimension and vibe.

“Composing on a new instrument brings freshness to the process. As the song evolved, I realized it lacked a guitar presence, so I asked my bandmate Nikko Rivera to infuse layers of keys and synth parts. I later added a touch of guitar for our live performances. Karel handled bass, and Jonard played the drums,” Barbie reveals.

Celebrating her 25th year in the music scene, Barbie Almalbis commemorated her career as a pivotal figure in Pinoy alternative rock with a concert. Additionally, she released her debut solo record, Parade, on vinyl. Currently, Almalbis is actively working on new songs and collaborations for forthcoming releases.

“Wicked Heart” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide.
