Assisting Lovebirds: Grab’s Superapp Plays Cupid Thousands Filipinos on Valentine’s Day

Fulfilling its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and value-driven transportation and on-demand deliveries, Grab demonstrated its effectiveness as a dependable ally for Filipinos during Valentine’s Day. Thousands of Filipino couples entrusted GrabCar, GrabFood, and GrabMart to craft their own unique and romantic celebrations.

This surge in Feb-ibig trend enabled the leading superapp to achieve its highest number of GrabCar bookings in 2024. Additionally, both GrabFood and GrabMart achieved record-breaking order volumes since their inception in the Philippines, experiencing a notable surge in demand not only in Metro Manila but also in cities beyond the capital on February 14, 2024.

Ronald Roda, Chief Operating Officer of Grab Philippines, underscored Grab’s distinctive position as a premier superapp and its ability to cater to consumer demands for exceptional services. “Being part of the creation of thousands of consumer stories is a rare opportunity for a company. We embrace the responsibility of facilitating plans for special moments by leveraging our cutting-edge technology and platform, along with our extensive ecosystem of merchants, delivery partners, and drivers. This empowers every consumer to seize the day with every meal delivered and destination reached,” Roda remarked.

“To Pag-Ibig and Beyond: Navigating with Pangga Safely and Conveniently” Romance wasn’t just in the air—it was also on the roads. Filipinos were more active than ever on Valentine’s Day, evident in the sustained peak in demand for Grab’s transportation services throughout the Valentine’s week. Among those who chose GrabCar for their Heart’s Day ride was X-user S, adding to the list of couples with successful dating-app stories, concluding their evening with a safe and convenient journey home with Grab.

Recently, Grab expanded its accessibility to more Filipinos by introducing GrabCar Saver, a more budget-friendly transportation option within the Grab app. Despite a slightly extended waiting period, passengers opting for GrabCar Saver can benefit from fares up to 15% lower than those of a standard GrabCar ride.

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice: On-Demand Kilig Dining

The latest Grab Food & Grocery Trends Report unveiled Valentine’s Day as one of the busiest occasions on the Grab platform, with a surge in demand persisting for up to five days after the holiday. Sweet shops and bakeries on GrabFood experienced a flurry of orders, with top selections including cupcakes, whole cakes, ice cream, desserts, baked goods, and pastries. Meanwhile, GrabMart played a pivotal role in sustaining the romantic atmosphere by meeting the high demand for popular items such as flowers, meat, wine, and homeware.

Furthermore, Grab’s Dine-In feature witnessed a surge in voucher purchases on Valentine’s Day. Serving as a digital foodie companion, Dine-In assists customers in discovering nearby restaurants and offers a range of exclusive discounts for their dine-in transactions. “It’s easier and more convenient to turn plans into actual dates through superapps like Grab—not to mention the cost-effectiveness it offers. With the savings I got through Dine-In, I was able to make our celebration with my partner even more special,” shared college student Pat.

The increased demand on Grab is also attributed to its viral video titled “Kwento Mo, Gawin Nating Totoo,” showcasing real-life experiences of users relying on superapps. This video, produced in collaboration with the award-winning creative agency Gigil, garnered over 30 million views and 500,000 social engagements, resonating strongly with Filipino viewers. It illustrates Grab’s role as an effective partner in enabling Filipino moment makers to overcome challenges such as the need for instant gifts and last-minute planning.
