AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (AAAGL) rejoices in yet another significant achievement as the foremost low-cost airline worldwide, with the exciting confirmation of the launch of its fifth airline, AirAsia Cambodia (flight code KT), scheduled for takeoff on May 2, 2024.

This milestone arrives amidst a crucial period for the aviation industry, as it steadily rebounds from its most severe crisis to date. AirAsia’s decision to expand into Cambodia demonstrates its resilience and determination to revive growth despite the formidable challenges confronting the sector. Operating out of Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH), the new airline will commence operations with an initial fleet of two Airbus A320s.

Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, Chairman of AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (AAAGL), expressed his excitement for this venture, stating, “The launch of AirAsia Cambodia signifies another significant moment for AirAsia, offering affordable and high-value travel opportunities for ASEAN residents to connect with loved ones, explore the region, and beyond. Emerging from a challenging period, this new airline marks a significant milestone in our journey of expansion and recovery from the disruptions caused by the pandemic. With Cambodia’s burgeoning aviation sector and its population of 17 million, we are proud to facilitate travel to this remarkable country, rich in cultural, historical, and natural wonders.”

Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (AAAGL), emphasized the company’s vision to shrink the ASEAN region and its eagerness to continue this legacy. Lingam highlighted the untapped potential in Cambodia, including the opportunity to train and develop numerous skilled professionals in aviation, akin to their initiatives in other ASEAN countries. Lingam also outlined ambitious growth plans, aiming to expand AirAsia Cambodia’s fleet to 60 planes within the next five years.

The impending merger of all AirAsia airlines within the Group, including medium-haul affiliate AirAsia X, further underscores the company’s commitment to transforming air travel across ASEAN and beyond. With over 130 destinations and growing, this consolidation will revolutionize both short and long-haul air travel.

AirAsia’s expansion into Cambodia underscores its profound understanding of the ASEAN market and unwavering dedication to providing exceptional service and value across the region. With a robust brand presence and loyal customer base, AirAsia is poised to make a significant impact on Cambodia’s aviation landscape, supported by the Group’s order of over 300 new aircraft tailored to meet evolving specifications and demands.
