The 2023 Asian Telecom Awards, held in Conrad Centennial, Singapore, recognized outstanding achievements and initiatives of various telecom companies throughout Asia. Eastern Communications was honored with the B2B Initiative of the Year award for its project titled “Eastern Communications Strengthens Infrastructure & Product Portfolio to Swiften Digitalization of Philippine Businesses.”
The winning project highlighted Eastern Communications’ efforts to expand its infrastructure and product portfolio, which supports the Philippine government’s push towards digitalizing cities and urban centers.
“We are delighted to receive this prestigious award from the Asian Telecom Awards, which recognizes our efforts in supporting businesses’ digital transformation journeys. This recognition is a privilege and an opportunity for us to highlight the Philippine government’s commitment to improving its infrastructure and further digitalizing its economy,” said Atty. Aileen Regio, Eastern Communications Co-Coordinator.
Reliable connectivity is essential for the digital economy to thrive, especially in an archipelagic country like the Philippines. Furthermore, research indicates that 40% of Filipinos still lack access to dependable internet connectivity, making remote and hybrid work arrangements challenging.
To democratize technology in the Philippines, premier ICT service provider Eastern Communications allocated a ₱4.3-billion budget last year to establish more points of connectivity. Through the expansion of terrestrial and submarine cable infrastructure, Eastern Communications achieved over 80% of its expansion footprint. The submarine cable network provides resilient and reliable access to connectivity services to support the expansion of operations in the BPO industry to islands and cities with rich talent pools.
By the end of 2022, Eastern Communications increased the reach of its fiber network to 26 digital cities, covering 8,700 km of fiber cable with a total of 180 nodes in 42 business cities across the Philippines. The company also expanded its business-grade ICT solutions portfolio to meet the market’s increasing demand for digital transformation and provide alternative connectivity options for various unserved areas.
Eastern Communications’ Co-Coordinators, Vince Tempongko, shared how the company had to adapt to the rapidly changing digital economy by expanding its services and offering ICT solutions. Through focusing on customer demands, the company has evolved from being a partner of choice for telecommunications services to a full ICT service business that caters to clients’ needs. Eastern Communications has increased its presence in multiple cities and provinces and introduced its services to key business centers, fulfilling its promises to be a partner of businesses in navigating the digital economy while supporting the government’s digital cities initiative, which covers urban areas that are poised for rapid growth and progressive opportunities.
Eastern Communications is a multi-awarded and internationally acclaimed company that continues to provide solutions for both the biggest industry players and emerging businesses through its unique brand of “High Tech” and “High Touch” service.
