If youâre planning a trip to Palawan, donât just stop at Coronâs lagoons or island hopping toursâBusuanga has a gem that not everyone gets to experience: dugong watching in Calauit Island.

But before the adventure begins, we made a quick stop at Kusina Leticia for breakfast. đłâ Their classic silog meals and coffee are the perfect way to fuel up for a day at sea. Simple, homey, and sulit!
After eating, it was time for the highlight of the tripâdugong watching. But first, we had to secure a permit to see them because Dugongs are listed as endangered species.

Dugongs, also known as âsea cows,â are gentle, slow-moving marine mammals that graze on seagrass. Theyâre vulnerable, and Palawan is one of the few places in the Philippines where you can still see them in their natural habitat.
Heading out to Calawit Island, we boarded a small boat and scanned the waters. And then⌠magic! đ A dugong appeared, gracefully swimming just beneath the surface.
This experience wasnât just funâit was truly humbling. Dugongs are a great reminder to us all how fragile marine life is, and how important it is to protect our oceans.
So if youâre heading to Palawan soon, add this to your itinerary:
